______ The beginning is blurry, it's always been blurry, even when I was living it. The reason being for my young age, and what I belong to. I hatched from my pearly egg a week early, a sign of strength, courage and leadership. If I had been male, I would have been taken to be king, duke or warrior, but I am female, so I was not. Instead I was taken to be either queen, duchess or prospect. The schooling was hard, there was no doubt that I was failing it. I couldn't see through the crystals like a prospect, a duchess was much too refined and queen too boring. They blamed it on my age, saying I was too young to understand the importance of either position I would take. But I would.

______ Blurry still, but clearer, is my next powerful memory. The day when the Grand Pearl was stood before me and I realised my grand position amongst my kind. No, a propect I was not, nor was I a duchess, a queen I should think not. My boredom was well placed as the grandest of blood ran through my veins. When the empress died a few months back her spirit was to find a new place to rest, her spirit merged with all the other past empress' our fair colony as had. This time, her spirit - with all the other's in agreeance - chose me. I was to be the new empress.

______ Finally clear was my training, I was older then so it is easier to recall - plus my exposure to the Grand Pearl finally awakened my eyes. You see, my kind are called Ghost Pearls we are born partially blind but it is cured by exposure to the blinding light of our Grand Pearl. Well, actually it's worsened. We become fully blind, unable to see with the eyes we are given at birth. But when we discover our position a pearl welded together with bone of our predescessor and tears of our parents, is presented to us. It becomes our new eyes. But other than that, our senses are heightened and we could see well enough without them, just without actually having sight.
