Rogar - Terror of the Deep
Rogar is a terror of the waters of the central sea. Dragons believe it to be a shade touched Highfin Sea Serpent but its massive size dwarfs other sea serpents, so much so, that even scholars scouring the scrolls and tomes of the Tourmaline Archives are unable to find mention of any creature quite like it.

Gale and the rest of the crew were out on another treasure hunt in the upper reaches of the Leviathan Trench, this expedition however was leading them into the murky depths further than they had gone before. They did find treasure there but they also discovered something worse, the lair of Rogar, the terror of the deep as many called him, and he was rightly named so because his shear size dwarfed that of any creature like him and when they saw his eye as he looked upon them, they saw only madness and hunger there, terror incarnate.
Among the treasure were many items of great value, but in the moment the only thing most of the crew could think of was to flee, all thoughts of wealth forgotten in hopes of keeping their lives, but Gale knew you didn't outswim a beast like that. Gale grabbed the first useful thing she could find, a shabby trident but better than the small knife she carried around, she knew a distraction was the only hope there was that any one might make it out alive. As she recklessly charged at the serpent, trident in claw, she struck blow after blow to the serpent to little effect due to its thick scaly hide. But Rogar didn't care about the pokes and prods from the little dragon, it hungered for larger snacks as it chased after larger crew members first, swallowing them one after another till she was the last one all her crew mates gone down the gaping maws of a monster. Knowing only death awaited her and the anger from the loss of her friends fueling her desperation she charged straight down the gullet of the serpent, swinging and stabbing the trident anywhere and every where she could, tearing and gouging the monster all the while never noticed the blue light starting to emanate from the weapon, granting her strength to fight harder and fiercer. Rogar obviously not enjoying his latest of snacks forced her back up and out before smacking the speck against the rocky trench wall with his tail. He was still hungry, but he would find more agreeable food elsewhere as he swap off leaving her crush and shattered body where it lay. As she laid there, bones broken scales shattered and blood slowly mixing with the water a voice spoke to her, it dripped with amusement and an offer, it would save her life, but in exchange it would call upon her for a favor one day, one she couldn't refuse. Seeing as it was her only hope she accepted the bargain as shadows stretched from the wall of the trench to envelop her, changing her body, morphing it to something else, but as the power tried to make her into a pawn of the shadows, the trident glowed with a brilliant blue light again and a small blue Turtle shimmered into existence, the blue light fighting against the writhing shadows and infusing Gale with the power of water and life, then she blacked out. When she next awoke she was no longer her old self, she could feel a connection to the water, more than she ever could before, her body felt different, and looked different, the trident still clutched in her, but not her, claws. She could felt the shadows in the back of her mind, whispering to her "well played little one, but its all just a game, and I always win in the end....". |
