torn in different directions, cansada was always last- last to eat, last to train, last to be noticed.
when he was a hatchling, the adults in the clan remarked on his sister's scales. so bright, so beautiful- just like her mother.
when he and his sisters grew, the adults praised his twin's achievements. look at her! so young, yet she's already bonded with a familiar.
when they were yearlings, the adults gossiped about his older siblings. they talked all about the rumors about those strange twins, sang the praises of the hardworking messenger,
when he grew, the adults spoke of his legacy. son of the spymaster and a
his siblings seemed content to ignore him- his hatchsisters became travelers and familiar tamers, and his older siblings were well-respected in clan remnant. messengers, sentinels, ambassadors, and artists- the children of fleet and her lovers were happy and wanted for naught.
but how could cansa be happy when his sisters' names meant hope and confidence, but his meant weary?
how could cansa be happy in a clan that prioritized discipline, obedience, and brutality, when he was a pacifist?
how could cansa be happy forever in the shadow of his family's legacy?
he ran away from clan remnant and didn't look back.
cansada found a home with other abandoned, outcasted, and 'fodder'- plainly or unattractively gened dragons typically sold to work for their deity until they died- dragons that had all been rescued. many had similar stories.
from there on out, his story remains unfinished.
perhaps you will be the one to continue it.
When Cansada arrived at the Forgotten Kingdom, he didn't know what to do. Getting a job and a place to stay was at the top of the list, but he had little to no money and was afraid to ask anyone to let him stay for a few days while he gathered the funds needed to at least be able to get an apartment.
During his time on the streets, Cansada carefully weighed the advantages and disadvantages of what type of food to get. When at a stall, he will carefully examine prices, and whether he liked the fruit or not.
Obsidian, the queen, had seen this, and simply thought he was trying to save money. But he did every single day. Weighing the advantages and disadvantages, and taking what had the most advantages compared to disadvantages.
Obsidian, having been looking for someone to add to her council, was amazed by this ability. She had so many dragons come in and fail the entrance test to her council. The test consisted of a hung council, and the new member was to break the tie by voting for one of the two new laws. They weren't told anything about the test, just thrown in the council room, but many just went with the "wrong answer", or the one with too many disadvantages.
Cansada's ability was something she needed for her council, so she met up with him, and asked him if he'd like to join the council. He said he'd give it a try, but there would be no promises of him staying. Obsidian understood and brought him to the council room for the entrance test, which he was not told about, of course.
When he was in the room, the council was hung, and he was to decide what the new "law" should be. Carefully weighing advantages and disadvantages, Cansada chose the correct choice, earning him a spot on the council.
Obsidian was happy to have him on the council; he played a vital role in choosing the law that gave more advantages to the Forgotten Kingdom than disadvantages. Obsidian even gave him a room to stay in the palace, forever grateful for his willingness to stay in the council and use his gift to help the kingdom.
Cansada was grateful too, a place to stay and eat as much as he wanted was always welcome, but such an important role bestowed upon him was even more welcome. He felt important. While he was still last to get something to eat at the table, and last to vote in the council, he was last for a good reason; to help the Forgotten Kingdom.
