Through the desert you walk, aimless. The scorching sun in your back, you keep wandering the endless dunes, no breath to waste, no thought to hold. It is not time, you thought to yourself. Not yet. The sign has not revealed itself.
The "Veil" has not lifted. The desert dwellers. Your kind. Each sees through the fog at a certain age, and yet, it has been too long since it should have shown itself, you knew. You could not have stayed, not in a holy place like this, praising the sun. A blind one among their midst? No, you could not bear the shame. You could not bear feeling different. And so you left. Wandering, searching. Anything. How long has it been, you thought? Nothing but the mist around your body reminding you of your roots. The veil of the heart, unique to each. Tired, drained, you let your gaze wander. In the far distance an oasis revealed itself to you, a calm sensation inmidst the overwhelming light of the sun even your mist could not shield you from. Despite your restlessness, you felt a gentle pull towards it, a soft breeze caressing your shoulder. You felt you had no time to waste, your desire to find yourself beckoning you, but your limbs were heavy. In the end decided to follow it, hesitantly, cautiously. "Mirwa.. Mirwa..." Whispers echo your mind. A word that seemed foreign to you, a stranger. What could it be? |
Embracing the cold air of the shallow pool, you give yourself but a second to catch your breath. Wearily your body sank to the ground, exhausted. How long must you keep searching? How long, how long.. Were you destined to never see through the fog at all? The mist slowly wrapping around you, tighter and denser, you are about to give in and let it swallow you whole. Let you take who you are. What was the point to a blind one after all? But in the last moment, you see something.
A single red rose inmidst this desolate oasis, gently swaying above the water. Lonely. How odd, you thought to yourself. You have never seen such curious flora for yourself, not in all those years. You approach it slowly, watching its fragile stem sway gently, no spikes to protect itself. As you reach for it, you pause as you feel the mist around you swirl in anticipation. Could it be? You take a breath, closing your eyes for a moment. You felt it. Home. It was calling to you in your language. And in this moment, you knew how to answer it. With one motion, you started your dance, your tail whirling up the sand around you, your wings fluttering to the beat of your heart. As you did, the petals of the rose started to loosen and dance with you in harmony, following a quiet melody. Raising yourself to your hindpaws, you raised your claws to the sun, your wings still beating - and the petals rested themselves on the water. As the sun reflected onto the pool and your mist surrounded the petals, in it you saw it. A vision. Between light and shadow, a red rose, basked in light. |
