Biography

Bahamut's avatar
Biological father of Flameheart. Descendant of the infamous Tiamat, who lead the coup against the Mad King over 300 years ago.

Fam: Flamescale spearman/pronghorn hunter/desert strangler?/sunrise troodo?/flora cerdae?

Get him Flaxen Unicorn Horn

Additional notes:

- Has tusks like a sabertoothed tiger, though not quite as long.
- Braids adorn his mane, usually twined with bits of fur, feather, or scale from fallen comrades.
- Fur is shorn shorter than breed art shows, besides his mane. All Fire Tundras have naturally thinner/shorter fur, but many also decide to cut it short.
- The necklace he wears wraps around his mantle. Each birdskull is that of a Firebird who has died in battle under his command, a ritual which was originally done with Phoenixes before their kind became incredibly elusive over the last few hundred years. So, instead of the skull being from the same bird, they are instead from different individuals, each cast in a special alloy to ensure preservation. The fact that the bird will never return to fly with their master again, unlike the Phoenixes of old, make the garment that much heavier to carry. So far, Bahamut only has one skull adorning his mantle.

- Despite Firebirds looking quite similar to Phoenixes, they are larger and generally more temperamental, being made of flames and ire more often than not. It is far harder to tame these beasts than their Phoenix cousins, but their loyalty and passion is absolute once earned. They do not have the miraculous ability of rebirth and healing though, which is something all dragons mourn when their war-beasts fall in battle.

- Fire Flight employ birds quite a bit in their armies, stemming back to the ancient reverence of Phoenixes and the bird-like aspects Coatls carry with them. Smoke Gyres and Firebirds are some of the most well-known war-beasts in Fire, but Rocs are also used, though much less frequently due to their rarity and the amount of effort it takes to train and keep them. On record, only the Exalted families of Fire are known to have true Rocs amongst their ranks, guarding places of political importance. The largest species to date is the Gold-Crowned Roc. It is rumored that the Exalted family who rules the Umberforge Empire has one of these beasts, but it is unconfirmed.
- Proto-Rocs, or Lesser-Rocs, are an ancient divergence from Rocs that have lived to the modern age. Far smaller than Rocs, they are more widely used by the public and are a common sight guarding merchant caravans or in lower branches of the military. Harpies have also been known to use them.
- Golden Rocs are bigger than Proto-Rocs, but smaller than true Rocs. Their sharper intelligence and swifter movement sees them being used as scouts and messengers (if your message is truly so important to have a Roc guard over it), rather than used in battle. If they are used in battle, it is usually as a signal-bearer for the army, or as swift messengers.

- The elite soldiers of the Heartlands' army are called the Eyes of Ember. They are lead by a Lord General, who is almost always a part of the royal family, a Lord Commander, and a Lord Captain.
- Members of the Eyes are chosen for their elemental mastery, almost always in the discipline of Fire, but in recent times this is changing. For example, the ruling Prince has appointed an Imperial from Wind as Lord Captain.
- All Eyes wear a special helmet to identify them. It has a single horn protruding from the forehead (if possible; slight changes are made to accommodate Pearlcatchers and Skydancers), made of an incredibly strong alloy that is very costly and hard to produce. The mixture of metals must be exact, and the smelting done in a true volcanic forge, something that only master blacksmiths can do. The colouration of the alloy is hard to control due to the complex mixtures, and so all horns are unique. The origin of the recipe for creating these horns has been mostly forgotten, except by the few scholars and loremasters of Fire.
- Along with the helmet, the symbol of the Eyes of Ember, the sacred 'Eye of Eternal Flame' from old religious myths, is worn proudly either on fabric and standards or stamped directly onto the metal of their armor.
