B I O G R A P H Y

Icicle hated the open ocean with a burning passion. He couldn't have ever told you what it was about that cobalt abyss that bothered him so much. Was it the roiling depths? Or what lay beneath?
He sighed. The exalt may dislike the ocean, but that wouldn't stop his commander from sending him on a mission by the coast, much as the pearlcatcher had done earlier that day.
The skydancer muttered something under his breath, feeling the snow-speckled stones beneath his talons as he trudged along, staying a distance away from the briny currents that crashed against the rocky shore. Icicle flinched as a few flecks of water splashed against his platinum feathers.
Maybe he hated the ocean because he was scared of it.
He knew of the unpredictable riptide currents from the exalts whom had originally been born in the territories of Water. The currents that could drag even Imperials down into the depths of the sea, to drown and never be seen again.

Closer and closer. Soon he would be at the docks, and be on his way to his mission, out in the middle of the ocean.

After a time more of walking, Icicle walked across the pier to the boat- piloted by a plum Guardian with deep blue eyes- and climbed inside.
And then they began to sail across the dark ocean.

Darker, darker, yet darker still grew the ocean as its depths increased. They continued to glide across the choppy surface of the ocean, till they drifted to a stop with no land in sight.
Icicle sighed. This was the part he had dreaded.
He slipped the mask over his head and plunged into the deeps.

Some say swimming is peaceful. That it gives you a sense of weightlessness, that you can feel as if you were flying.
Icicle, however, thought very differently as he swam deeper and deeper, the water permeating his feathers and making him feel heavier and heavier.
In the ocean, your senses are dulled or taken away. Your vision blurs. Your hearing is muffled. Your movements are slowed and you can touch nothing, feel nothing but the currents around you.

He began to panic as he got closer to the ruins. He could barely see. The sunlight barely penetrated the saline depths, barely touched the crumbling, non-euclidean ruins grasped by desperate corals and anemones looking to survive in this watery hell.
He switched his lamp on and continued, the amber glow doing little to pierce through the eternal midnight.

He suddenly saw a glowing flash to his left. Icicle span towards it; he found nothing.
Unnerved, he continued going deeper. He couldn't shake the feeling of being watched.

The skydancer had almost reached the sea floor when he turned.
He wished he hadn't.
The form he became faced with was vaguely like that of an imperial, though its scales had a slickness to them that no living dragon possessed. He could see antediluvian markings gleam against its obsidian form, whose impossibly titanic form faded into the abyss beyond.
Icicle screamed, but the sound was muted, muffled.
No one could hear you scream in the ocean.

Its eyes tore into him with their fish-like indifference, far too bright to be anything but eldritch. With the simple absence of caring his mind began to shatter, tear apart.
Faster than he ever had before, Icicle began to rise to the surface. Nothing mattered but getting away from that *thing.*

He scrabbled his way into the boat, practically screeching for the guardian to get them out. of. there.

From that day on, Icicle could never get those accursed *eyes* out of his mind. Always watching, always waiting. For what? Not even the gods could say.
At least the gods were somewhat draconic in nature.
But that *thing*?
It was far from it. And it had to stay forgotten, for the safety of all.
