Nightshade

Nightshade is a helpless romantic who fell for a beautiful skydancer only to realize she was on the opposing side to his clan. In Nightshade clan there’s the normal tiers and then the lost tier. And guess where his lover just happens to be from… you guessed correctly. Nightshade is usually shy but still tried to contribute to the clan as much as he can. He’s a free spirit and tends to float around, going here and there where he’s needed. Nightshade sat outside the burning estate, still dazzled by the night’s events. Karat’s party had been, of course, full of splendor, and he had enjoyed the dancing . . . but they couldn’t stop thinking of that skydancer he’d met—well, seen—at the refreshment table. Behind him, dragons cried out as a massive beam collapsed and half the roof of the estate crashed down in a fiery roar, but Nightshade merely sighed, resting their head on their claws. The skydancer had to be of at least Third Tier, to be able to drink the poisoned—excuse him, diversified—wine. How she’d managed to toss back so many glasses as if they were shots, he didn’t know. But beyond that, there had been a twinkle in her eyes, a lightness to her step, something subtle and secretive in her every move that Nightshade struggled to define—they felt the word sat on the tip of his tongue, yet they couldn’t think it. “That’s it,” he said, standing up so fast his vision blackened at the edges for a second and they had to wait for the spell to pass. They turned around and beheld the flaming pyre of the dance hall, and once again saw in their mind’s eye the skydancer sprinting from First Tier guards, a torch in her jaws and jugs of alcohol swinging from her wingclaws. Nightshade had never known another dragon to be so . . . bold. And destructive. “I’m going to send her flowers,” he declared, as a party guest went running past them, wailing and with their dress in ashy tatters.
