Fear
Crushing, unrelenting darkness.
A hint of pride
Crushed by confusion
And forever, lingering darkness.
This was Arlya’s first impression of the world.
Then suddenly light, but... somehow unfamiliar. She could see a small, multi-eyed young imperial hatchling curled up shivering in the remnants of an egg. Dozens of eyes blinked open and closed all over it, but they seemed to be looking far, far away...
Then a jolt like an electric shock brought her to a different viewpoint, of the same thing but somehow tinted differently, a new kind of strange. Different viewpoint, different angle, different everything. Yet somehow exactly the same.
These glimpses only lasted a few seconds.
But that was enough.
More than enough.
For the darkness to come back.
Voices rang off unfamiliar spaces, unintelligible jabber coming from the darkness, punctuated by stabs of emotions.
Flashes of light.
She tried to force her body to go towards the stronger voice.
Another flash, of the hatchling’s claws waving in the air towards the viewer. She understood now, even just as young as she was.
She had a terrible power.
She must tell nobody
She must remain in the darkness as long as she can.
