"You wanted your kids, your family, to be great," Toluine told her mate, when she could be convinced to tell him what was wrong. "You wanted to mix your line with warriors, scholars, and prophets. And instead... instead, you fell for me."

Balboa smiled his easy smile and kissed her hand. "My dear, I would rather love you than chase all the glory in the world. The little ones can worry about dreams of greatness, if they so choose. I myself would rather be small and happy."

Toluine brought her face down to nuzzle her mate, joy spreading across her features. "Well, may I at least keep carrying you while you work?"

"How else am I supposed to sketch from the air?" Balboa climbed up and tangled himself in her head spines. "You know, with as much as you correct my lines, it's as much your work as mine. I've been crediting you as my assistant for a very long time. From the moment I saw you... well, I knew I had to at least try to impress you."

Toluene laughed, surprisingly soft for such a large dragon. "You got a map impaled on my wing spikes. I still wonder why you framed that one."
