The Veilspun sits in her earth-encased den, her long whiskers twitching as she scribbles furiously in a worn leather-bound notebook. A large stone shoved into the dark earth of the den wall serves as her table, across which scurry insects of many varieties. Their scurrying doesn’t seem to faze the female, and she takes the time to gently nudge one off of the page before continuing her writing. The sound of chirping, buzzing, and humming wings fills the air in the cozy space, almost as if the walls of the cavern itself were alive. Although she is much larger than them, the Veilspun appears quite insect-like herself with her quick, furtive movements. Every so often she flutters her own wings unconsciously, sending a myriad of flying moths, butterflies, bees, and beetles swirling away in all directions.

Perhaps one of the most accomplished entomologists in the Shifting Expanse, Arcan is always seeking to expand her knowledge of the insect world even further. Her den is a living museum of specimens from her homeland, and she gleans much of her information merely from observing her subjects’ daily lives. She rarely leaves her sacred den, only venturing out during optimal times of year to collect new specimens. On these occasions, she can be seen wildly flinging her homemade net around and making odd little chirping noises as if trying to coax her study species towards it. While some may find her a bit eccentric (I mean, she does live in a den of bugs, after all), Arcan is perfectly pleased with her profession. Although she usually sleeps alone (since none of her clanmates are keen on the idea of hundreds of insects crawling all over them while they slumber), the sheer number of insects keeps her little den warm enough to prevent her from going into torpor, as other solitary Veilspun do.
