in terms of bardic ability, saffron is similar to most songbird keep residents: better than most dragons, but average for within the clan itself. having been raised in the keep, they’re able to perform simple spells by trilling out a tune or two, but nothing much past that. nonetheless, they have as much of a fondness for music as any other fellow clanmate; when the local lyricist debuts her new ballad, saffron is more often than not the first in line. this, most importantly, is where saffron’s similarity to the average keep resident ends- and where their endeavors begin. while a songbird dragon through and through, ever since hatchlinghood, saffron maintained a sense of wanderlust not quite matched by their peers. this trait clashed most, however, with saffron’s own mother. one of saffron’s siblings died as a young hatchling; a sickly snapper since birth, it was little surprise when they eventually succumbed to an unavoidable illness. heartbroken, their mother developed a tendency to “helicopter parent” her children, terrified at losing another of her brood. ultimately, the greatest difficulty of saffron’s young life was not starting the journey, but convincing their mother to let them leave at all. nevertheless, near immediately after reaching adulthood, saffron finally obtained their mother’s blessing to leave the keep. it was clear to anyone with eyes that their destiny lay outside the keep, and their mother was no exception. whether a blessing or a curse, it seemed the earthshaker himself had given saffron an intense and inherent wanderlust. with little else than a burgeoning talent for herbalism and a fervent desire to see the world, they set out for all of sornieth. saffron henceforth traversed the domains as a traveling tea merchant and apothecary. they sold their wares and, along the way, accumulated a vast store of knowledge on the various plants and herbs of sornieth. saffron soon found themself supplying wares to all sorts of curious dragons- from dwellers of gilded courts, to the local coven of witches. despite their still fairly young age, cardamom is often described as having an “old soul” by acquaintances, due to their cultured experience and keen emotional intelligence. that’s not to say they’re soft, however; quite the opposite, in fact. their lengthy experience in sales only served to shape saffron into an even more determined dragon than when they had first left the keep. (if such a thing is even possible; adolescent saffron was a terribly troublesome creature.) whether it’s haggling with a customer or manipulating someone into a sale, this clever spiral knows exactly how read other dragons, and has no qualms whatsoever about using that information to the fullest extent. fortunately for sornieth at large, saffron has strong a moral compass, despite their manipulative tendencies- they would never utilize their silver tongue with the intent to harm another. with their stubborn, occasionally abrasive demeanor, however, they can be a polarizing character in the gaze of many. |
