Biography
A Y A N O

Ayano was here before the clan and she will be here long after we are gone. She is the mist between the trees, the cold spring breeze, the moonlight washing over you. Her home is now and has always been Wispwillow Grove. There is a particular pond, small and delicate and easy to miss, where she was born. One day, she will die in that very same pond... if she's even capable of death. Before Sorceress and Tau began cultivating the land and building their clan, Ayano was here. She spent her days in the forest, luring weak travelers to her pond. What she did with them is anyone's guess. Her pond would never betray her secrets, her past, her thoughts. When the young dragons began spreading across the Tangled Wood, Ayano retreated. She played tricks on her unwelcome neighbors, driving them away, but had no interest in engaging with them. The young dragons were so full of themselves, so cocky and entitled.

Sorceress was the first to stumble upon her pond. She was wandering along the edge of the woods, showing her young daughter, Phedre, around. Together they marveled at the beauty of the grove - the bright blue mushrooms, the tall purple trees, the thick mist, the dark skies. It was such a different world from the one they had known. The small clan had fled Starfall Isles after being driven out by a much larger clan. Sorceress knew that her heart lay in the Tangled Wood. All her nights gazing out across the world, from her view atop a cliff in Hoverview Vale, showed her what she truly desired. Ayano could see this within her. She could see the curiosity, the wonder, the adoration. It brought joy to her. So for many years, Ayano lived in the shadows protecting the clan. She would leave little gifts and chase off intruders. She made sure that no dragons felt this little clearing would be a good home for them. And, over time, she showed them the underground caves. She led them, silently and invisibly, to the safe, protected valley they would one day call home. As the clan's young grew, Ayano grew alongside them. She became something of a myth, a legend, among the hatchlings. She would reveal herself just enough to catch their attention before fading back into the shadows. The children insisted that faeries lived with them, here in these thick woods. They swore up and down and they were telling the truth. After all, they had seen her! Who could argue with that?! Over time, the dragons' wills would fade as the next generation took their turn believing wholeheartedly in the fae. It wasn't until the clan was large and powerful, no longer dependent on Ayano's kindness to survive, that she finally revealed herself to the queen. Ayano still plays her tricks on weary travelers and unsuspecting dragons, but she has found a sense of safety and community in the clan she helped build. She can often be found with the hatchlings, teaching them how to embrace the darkness of their home. No hatchling will ever know fear in her arms or be frightened of their woods. |
