Island charged through the field of flowers, grinning with glee as she sent brilliantly colored petals flying in all directions. They caught the spring breeze and danced across the meadow, carried along by the whims of the wind. Island breathed in their array of scents and promptly flopped down in the soft grass at her feet, letting out a long sigh. The sun shone brightly on her multi-colored scales, and she basked in its warmth, feeling utterly at peace.

Life hadn’t always been this way. Island had spent years on her own, fending for herself, struggling to survive from day to day. But life in the Sunbeam Ruins had been different from the start. A shadow dragon, Island was puzzled at first as to why she felt so at home in the realm of the Shadowbinder’s loathed enemy. She still didn’t really have an answer, and perhaps she never would. In the end, she supposed it didn’t matter much. For the first time in her life, she knew what belonging felt like, she knew what it was like to love her clan as much as they loved her. And that meant everything.
