PROFILE

The palace is full of ghosts both literal and figurative, and no occupant is more dedicated to finding them than Demetria. Swathed in stolen treasures, she is the echoing clink of metal that carries through the halls at night, the bobbing lantern light in the darkness.

She waits in the shadows of the library and listens to Marinus’ incessant murmurs, trying to make sense of his scrawl when he flings his notes from the table and runs from the room. She stalks Alwyn down many flights of stairs while the air grows sour and the stone underfoot grows slippery, until they reach one of the doors only the construct can pass. She dances with Ophir, to music found on a sheet rolled tightly and pressed into a crack in the wall of the long-empty courtesans’ quarters. She trawls through records of numbers and figures, searching for patterns.

It’s uncertain how much she knows about anything, but Demetria keeps her secrets to herself. Nobody has the trinkets to pay such a price.
