Biography

arrowroot
they/it | ? ? ? | resident | plantbeast

|| Background
No one in Rara Avis knows where Arrowroot came from, nor how they died. In fact, for most of Rara Avis's life, the skeleton of the great Imperial remained buried under the earth of the crater gardens, unknowingly lurking just underneath the surface. Evidence of Arrowroot's past is mostly erased or unfindable; although after close inspection of what bones are visible, it seems apparent that it died in violent combat.

Wherever they originated from, Arrowroot only rose from the earth after Starstone emerged from the meteor. At first, the spot of their resurrection only appeared to be a noticeably thick and hardy area of plant life. It took several weeks for Arrowroot to rise free of their grave, emerging as the front half of a long-dead Imperial skeleton, held together by tangled vines and leaves.

Though the clan was terrified of the plantbeast at first, it quickly became apparent that Arrowroot was no real threat, at least as they were. Not only was it friendly and generally easygoing, only about a third of its body managed to pull itself out, leaving Arrowroot wingless and mostly clawless (with only one paw moveable). Once it proved to be at least not deadly, the clan herbalist, Amaranth, agreed to take care of it along with the rest of the gardens.

|| Current
As they are now, Arrowroot seems more than content to simply enjoy their new life. They take great joy in even the simple things, and love to chat and relax in the sun. Visitors to Rara Avis are typically still scared of it, but a few of the residents have grown used to the undead Imperial's presence, and some will even deliberately go to chat with it.

Arrowroot cannot remember anything about who they were before, and little about the circumstances that led to their death. Still, on moonless nights, it will look up at the stars and flashes of memories will play across its mind— memories of flashing claws, cold iron, and a black-and-silver Guardian with blood on his maw...

|| Notes
◈ Soren is a Wildwood Owl that decided to nest inside the plants that form Arrowroot's body. In exchange for their protection, Soren is known to attack anyone threatening the plantbeast.
◈ After they emerged, Rara Avis reached out to some similar dragons and other Nature experts in an effort to find the truth behind Arrowroot's appearance. No revelations have been found yet, but it has resulted in the Imperial making a few friends.
◈ All of the plants that make up Arrowroot's body are seemingly unkillable, even in winter. Several are carnivorous as well, and seem to sustain the plantbeast directly when they catch insects, although Arrowroot will also eat meat or fish if offered.
◈ Seeing various kinds of snakes on Arrrowroot's body is not at all uncommon, as it moves infrequently enough and attracts enough rodents to make it worth their while.
