When he was carried off of the battlefield, Ripjaw knew it would be the last time. Gruesome as it was, the battlefield had been Ripjaw’s home from the moment of his birth. Both warriors, his parents were never far from the battlefield themselves, and his mother had laid her clutch the night before a particularly bloody fight between two warring Plague clans. Ripjaw was named for his tenacious spirit, and also for his habit of biting down on his target… and never letting go. He was a skilled warrior, and eventually left his birthclan to escape from living in his parent’s shadows.
His career as a warrior took him from flight to flight, but he found himself most often in the realm of the Plaguebringer’s mortal enemy. He was stationed near the Pox Consulate when it happened. His army had stumbled upon the hideout of a clan of rival warriors, and a vicious battle ensued. Severely outnumbered, the Nature warriors fought for their lives, even though they knew all hope was lost. Ripjaw found himself admiring their courage, even as he tore them to shreds. For the first time, he began questioning the necessity of his actions and found the answers lacking. Distracted, Ripjaw was severely wounded in the fight and was carried by his comrades to a nearby healer. The healer was of Nature flight, but treated Ripjaw without hesitation, her emerald green eyes filled only with compassion. Under the healer’s care, Ripjaw’s physical wounds began healing quickly, but he found the ones on his conscience remained just as raw as the day of his last battle. His fellow warriors were shocked when Ripjaw announced he was retiring for good, but they said nothing to stop him. Although he had no idea what his new life would look like, Ripjaw wasn’t apprehensive about the future. For reasons he couldn’t quite explain, Ripjaw felt as if his life were only just beginning. |
