"I love the stars to dearly to be afraid of the night"

Flying down through the purple sky, Dawnpetal looked like a comet in the stars. His wings were like lines of starlight, falling down to the ground. Dawnpetal did this flight every night now. He liked that he could look like the sky, even if it was only for an hour.

When he was a hatchling, the clan would take him inside before twilight. He followed sadly, but he wanted to fly. Now that he was older, Dawnpetal could have fun alone under the moon.

Tonight, Dawnpetal was tired. He landed softly, like a cat, and stretched his wings. His little familiar, Voltage, was waiting in the grass. He squeaked to say hello, climbing onto Dawnpetal’s shoulder.

Before he walked away, Dawnpetal looked at the sky. Now he saw that the sky was full of shooting stars. His eyes went wide at the beauty.

He ran back to his den. He quickly took a pen and paper. His claws were a blur. When he was done, he moved the paper to under the moonlight. He had made a drawing of the beautiful shooting stars. Voltage sparked, excited. Dawnpetal smiled.

Since that day, Dawnpetal chases the stars. A year later, his den was covered in drawings of the stars, their patterns, and how they move.

He tells the clan’s other hatchlings about the night. He always writes the date when there is a meteor shower. One day, he will give these dates to the clan’s children, and they will also watch the stars.
