Biography
Pestilentia was hatched in the vast, arid expanse of the Abiding Boneyard alongside her brother, Nergal. At a young age, the pair of dragons learned to adapt to the uniquely harsh environment, being instructed countless times by their parents not to waste or wander too far. They were strict, but not without reason. While Nergal was an obedient hatchling, Pestilentia had from a young age a strong desire to explore. Her parent's rules felt stifling, and their scolding only made her angry. She wanted more than a life trapped in their tiny den, and as she grew older, her desire to leave it all behind grew and grew. Just barely on the cusp of adolescence, she fled their den in the dark of the night. Without a clue as to her final destination, an eagerly defiant Pestilentia resolved to travel as far as she could, to prove to her parents and brother that she could make it out in the harsh wilds alone. It was then that an unexpected storm hit. It was brutal, larger than any Pestilentia had seen before, and her wings were not strong enough to beat against the noxious gusts. The dark, moonless sky stretched overhead as she was blown off course and straight towards the infamous Wyrmwound. With a revolting splash, Pestilentia was hurled into the concoction of rot, and then everything went black. |
She awoke on the edge of Rotrock Rim, memory hazy and aching all over. Her recollection of what happened was clouded, only finding brief flashes of pain and panic and confusion, and absolutely no memory of how she got out of the swirling pit. It could take her ages to find out how much time had passed or how to get home. But it did not take long at all to realize just how much she had changed. She had become monstrous, covered in colonies of toxic fungi and sharp crimson crystals, scales oozing bright vermillion. She knew that even if she knew the way home, she could not return. Not like this. Years passed. Living alone, Pestilentia learned a great many things about survival that her parents hadn't taught her, and despite her accident in the Wyrmwound, her body was as strong as ever. But despite this the days were long, her self enforced solitude silently eating at her heart. It was on one such day that she reunited with someone she never would have expected: her brother Nergal, all grown up just as she. Ashamed of her appearance and for leaving home, Pestilentia was unsure how to react. But Nergal deserved to know what had happened, that much she knew. So she explained everything. Much to her relief, Nergal was nothing but glad to see her alive, and the pair parted ways knowing they'd see each other again very soon. Now, Pestilentia has made a decent home in Rotrock Rim, keeping to herself more out of habit but knowing that if she needs a friend, Nergal is never far away. |
