Biography

Corran Dawncrescent, a member of a family of Veilspun that are scorned by most of Veilspun society for betraying the Shadowbinder for the Lightweaver. Corran does not feel shame in his legacy, even if it means he can never return to the place of his species' origin, for he feels he has attained true enlightenment in the Sunbeam Ruins following the principles of Truth.

Selected Virtue: Study
Hindering Vice: Defensiveness
  • The least fond of being short
Birthplace:

The Dawncrescents have a storied history going back centuries, before the sealing of the Veilspun, they had forsaken their gift of hypnotism and enchantment in favor of the feel of sunlight on their skin and enlightenment through truth, renouncing their ways of kidnapping and controlling others for the mind was sacred. Veilspun had abandoned the Tangled Wood and ways of trickery and guarding the mystical secrets of the forest in the past, but what the Dawncrescents were doing was announcing their new allegiance to the patron in direct opposition of Shadow, and the secrets of Shadow would most certainly come to light. The Veilspun of the wood were outraged at the Dawncrescents, and the Shadowbinder moreso. While the family was able to reach the Sunbeam Ruins for safety, in turn, they were stripped of their puppeteering abilities and memories of their ancestral dances, either willingly letting the Lightweaver take them or a last attempt from the Shadowbinder to keep them from revealing her secrets. Rumor has it that the reason for the Veilspun being sealed to begin with was for the Dawncrest's betrayal and escape to the ruins.
Corran is a descendant of those very Dawncrescents, prior to the unveiling and the repair of the portal between Light and Shadow, they had stayed in secret as the Lightweaver's eyes and ears, though they had become so numerous that their duties as spies would eventually branch out into everyday dragon lives. While most Dawncrescents are free to go about their lives as they wish, Corran stuck to the roots of his ancestors, rigorously studying both Faith and reason in an endless pursuit of Truth. He is a practical, strict dragon, a massive stickler for rules and is regularly seen practically drowning in tomes of every sort, and he makes sure that his (embarrassingly taller) brothers and sisters do the same as to not slight the honor of those who follow the Light. Most of all he's reprimanded the most zealous in Nato and Cassandra, that their pursuit of righteousness not be eclipsed by brutishness and that they be mindful that virtue comes not from playing the hero but from meditation and continuous learning and study. As part of a rather infamous family, he gets rather touchy when the subject of the ways of Shadow and especially the abilities his family has lost is brought up. He hates to admit it, but he envies the Veilspun who have kept their abilities in spite of defecting from Shadow, even Crow who's puppeteering abilities are limited and rather weak. It's the price to pay for wisdom shared through the generations, he figures, but to see the dances his kind performs that he cannot perform for the life of him...sometimes leaves him jealous. But that jealousy is short lived when he remembers there's more important things than what you can and can't do, it's what you can and can't comprehend.
