The epitome of a gentle giant, Thing got his name from some old acquaintances who never quite understood him. Clumsy, large, near-sighted, and a deep thinker, and quite content to keep his nose to the ground and study insects. Being the only Tundra hatchling among a group of smaller dragons, he was often referred to as Thing, until he happily took it as his own. Unbothered by the teasing, but eager to find like-minded dragons and study the world around him, Thing set off from the Snowsquall Tundra with little plan beyond "learn more, love others". And that he did-- after meeting Bumble in the Starfall Isles and becoming fast friends, they eventually made a camp in the Viridian Labyrinth-- a place rich with plants, flowers, animals, and insects for them to study. He and Bumble found an abandoned nest of eggs that they raised carefully. The hatched dragons all found service with the Gladeskeeper-- except Olivine, who chose to stay and learn alongside the two studious dragons. Eventually, word got out about their welcoming manner and desire to share what they've learned, and other dragons began to make their permanent home with them. Thing is big, soft, caring, and passionate. Though sometimes he can be a bit lost in his own thoughts and appear a bit... ditzy, he is quite wise and knowledgable. His laughter is warm, his love is wonderful, and he will gladly tell you all he knows, or listen to you patiently and attentively all day. The only thing that surpasses his passion for insects is his care for others-- he will do whatever he can to remedy a conflict or bad mood, and is always ready with a listening ear, blanket, and a cup of tea. Besides his careful catalogue of Sornienth's bugs, he also enjoys reading, playing with the Hatchlings, hiking, and helping set up for celebrations. (You didn't hear it from me, but he can be bribed with cakes and tea to help you with your work-- especially acorn cakes, and ESPECIALLY those made by Syrup.) Thing's previous mate, Deirdre, left to serve the Gladeskeeper. Not much is known among the clan about that story, and while Thing insists he's alright, there are some quiet, contemplative moments where he seems a bit sad... though the others are on the case. |
