P A P I L L I O N
Papillion splits his time between helping Evergreen on courier jobs, and doing odd jobs around the clan. He enjoys decorating the lair with Boomslang and exploring with Evergreen, but his true passion is for cartography! He loves drawing intricate maps of the lair, surrounding areas, and anywhere he travels with Evergreen.

Papillion's dream for the future is to one day map the whole of Sorneith, and start a continent-wide cartographer's association to keep detailed, accurate, and up to date maps of all the flights' lands, including beast-clan territory locations, updated population statistics for different areas, and the trade and migration route of travelling clans.

To this end, he is currently in support of Evergreen's campaign to convince the clan to move closer to a more dense and organised population centre.

Born and raised in Flotsam Town, Papillion never thought he'd get a chance to travel to the border of the central sea, let alone the rest of the realms. Despite dreaming of mapping the world as a hatchling, Papillion is not a long distance flier even by Fae standards, so was reduced to copying and interpreting maps without ever seeing the lands they were inspired by.

Refusing to fully resign himself to a life within the borders of Flotsam Town, Papillion made tentative plans to travel with one of the trading caravans passing through the central sea on their way to far-flung parts of Sornieth. However, few travellers were interested in providing passage for a Fae with little skill in defence and few useful skills to offer besides map reading.

Determined to find another way out of the central sea, Papillion reconsidered his previous plan, and began to sketch out an idea to take advantage of his small size and stow away in the storage crate or pack of someone bound for, at the very least, an area not bound by water-that would allow him to travel without risk of falling and drowning. All he needed was one chance-a large dragon or a large group of traders leaving a bag unattended or looking the other way.

Shortly after he'd finished packing his go-bag (supplies for 2 weeks of travel, one large map of Sornieth and one covering each of the flight's territories in more detail) he noticed Evergreen, clearly working as a long-distance courier, making a package delivery in the outskirts of Flotsam Town. Seizing the opportunity, he hid himself inside her satchel while she picked up some snacks for the journey home from a nearby stall.
Soon, with a great jolt and a few heavy beats of Evergreen's wings, Papillion found himself soaring over the wide blue expanse of the central sea. After a just over a day of travel, he took the risk of discovery to peak out of the flap of the bag- only to spot the purple smudge of the Driftwood Drag's shoreline in the distance-for the first time in his life he could see dry land!

After another long day of flying, Evergreen finally descended below the clouds to roost for a night in a grove of trees just over the border of the Tangled Wood. Well rested from his time hidden in her satchel, Papillion took the chance to briefly explore their surroundings- but with no settlement visible nearby and plenty of threatening rustling from hidden predators in the undergrowth, he decided to stow away with Evergreen gain until he found somewhere more hospitable to start the next stage of his journey.

However, as the days passed by, and the Behemoth grew ever larger in the distance, while none of Evergreen's temporary roosts seemed to be in overtly hostile territory, none of them looked safe or civilised enough for a tiny Fae with minimal survival skills to stay for any length of time, away from the protective presence of a large Guardian.

Just over a week after he had stowed away in her bag, Evergreen stopped to rest and hunt in a patch of trees on the far side of the Tangled Wood. But as she slept, and Papillion poked his head out her bag to explore, he noticed a group of Serthis discretely making their way towards them, weapons in hand! He quickly clambered up Evergreen's side to her head, tucked under her wing as she rested.
As he hissed into her ear as loudly as he dared, Evergreen awoke with a start, and just as the leading Serthis lunged, leapt frantically up into the air, narrowly avoiding their claws and dodging a thrown vial of acid. Fleeing rapidly towards the Behemoth in the distance, clinging tightly to the side of Evergreen's aviator helmet, Papillion hoped he hadn't traded one unfortunate end for another! Scroll Case

BOOMSLANG

Despite the difficulty in communication between Fae and Coatls, Papillion and Boomslang have formed a strong friendship based on their mutual love of floral decoration, developing a unique sign language and using flower code to mimic/replicate the use of Fae fins to express emotion.
