Biography
Marid
Life is but a fallacy
The twilight gathering under dark pines grows quiet as the sun falls below the horizon. So many have come, whispers of power and greatness bringing weak hearts together under a banner of night. Blue shadows dance at the edges of the fires the supplicants lit hours ago, writhing with a life of their own. It is most unsettling, but none dare leave. There is after all, something to gain by staying, and no one else has run yet. That is, of course, when the darkness parts and their host steps forth, grinning.
Marid is an inheritor of the Conqueror aspect of the Incarnation. Where her sister deals in the dead, she deals in the living; calling restless spirits to her with promises of freedom, power, glory, or whatever else they might desire. She is followed by the horde her promises gather, each unknowingly allowing the Shade into their hearts with every passing moment simply by continuing to exist in her presence. It is only toward the end, when the body is too corrupted to continue functioning, that she even bothers to reveal the price for her power.
She does in fact fulfill the oaths she makes, giving fragments of her darkling power to those who swear themselves to her. It is a shard of Shade that she gives them, setting it to feeding off her victims' souls and bolstering them with false power. Once the Shade has consumed the being of the dragon it was 'gifted' to, it simply consumes the dragon as well. Sometimes they become specters set to walk the earth without thought in service to the Shade, but others simply cease to exist. Marid takes great joy in the despair of her followers when she finally tells them the truth of what she has done.
Her heart, assuming she has one, is a thing of malice, with no room for compassion or regret. It is a wonder she can revel in the futility of her victims' plight.

I like her as a corrupter of dragons. Luring them with promises of power or independence only for her flock to realise too late that the Shade has utterly consumed them.
