Stonekeeper Crown 		One by one, they get sick. At first, they think nothing of it. First, it's the hatchlings, young and not yet exposed to illness. Then the elders, weak with age. Then those who are strong and healthy, until one day, they are lying in bed, too exhausted to eat. One by one, they get get sick, and only the ill are allowed to prepare the graves to prevent the spread.

After many arguments that turn into fights, they reach a decision. Something is wrong with the land, and those who are healthy need to be protected from the disease. Neighboring clans will understand and accept them. And so, he bids farewell to the graves of his family and sets off.

His new clan does not understand. They live on, the elders tell him. Their death brings new life, they patronize. He knows this. Of course he knows. The graves of his wife and children will bloom with flowers. But they are gone. He will never see them again. And no one understands. He lives knowing he is alone, and it unbearable, until he is restless and cannot stay any longer.

He lands in the Wind territories, away from the happiness and cheer they always seem to have. Here, it is quiet, a forest beckoning him and lanterns guiding his path. He finds a new clan, a King, and when he explains the death of his clan, he is not told that they live on, but that it was a tragedy and he must be devastated. Yes, he thinks in relief. Here, he finds compassion.

Another Plague fae finds him the next morning, one named Apeliotes. In the quiet, Apeliotes asks if he mourned the loss of his clan, and when he stiffly answers no, asks if wants to. There is a tradition among Earth dragons, Apeliotes says, when you lose your family. There is no judgement there. Slowly, he nods. The next morning, with the permission of his King, he is no longer a Plague dragon. He is an Earth dragon allowed to mourn the loss of his old family and live a new life as a member of the Fae Court.
