ELFARRAN
Archmage | Councilor | Gladekeeper's Chosen

As the clan's combat strategist and most active councilor, Elfarran is felt by many to be a virtual uncrowned queen. She is a mage of uncommon skill, both a proficient healer and a deadly warrior. The clan's greatest victory in battle, the capture of a Frost Delver, was due almost entirely to her cunning and defense of Lebannen and Erreth Akbe, who would have been felled quickly without her aid. Eta and Morred, her longest-running partnerships, are skilled warriors, and she has been mentoring one of the clan's oldest dragons, Segoy, in the art of magic. These dragons are among her closest supporters.

Elfarran is also responsible for many of the natural defenses which protect the clan from beast attacks; although as a battle mage she retains the techniques of her native Wind flight for their greater offensive ability, her devotion to the Gladekeeper has granted her the ability to accelerate plant growth and expand her perception as far as her symbiotic forest extends. Lebannen, Kest, and others thus feel that the clan's rise to peace and prosperity can be attributed to Elfarran's vigilant magic.

In personality, she is fiercely loyal to both the clan and the Gladekeeper. As a young wind dragon, she traveled widely before settling down, and she places a high value on the range of Sornieth's natural beauty and diversity of the dragons who inhabit it. Elfarran considers her reverence for all the gods to be in keeping with Nature's spirit of growth and abundance. The one exception is the Plaguebringer. As a hatchling, Elfarran was permanently scarred by a Scythe Kamaitachi during a nighttime ambush. Although she hides the worst of the wounds on her chest with silk, her emnity of Plague and its creatures has never abated. She sees Plague as the antithesis to Nature and, indeed, to the rest of Sornieth.

This stance has led to increasing tension as Orm Embar, mate of the Progenitor Tehanu and well-beloved proponent of the clan's efforts at acquiring a menagerie of every creature in Sornieth. Orm Embar has defended the presence of each plague creature captured and tamed by the clan, culminating in the Plague Sprite. Elfarran refused to speak to him for a week following the sprite's arrival, and since then the rift has only grown with the arrival of Scatha and Veles. Some even fear that Elfarran's hatred of Scatha, as the clan's sole plague-born dragon, may erupt into violence.
