Jyn was crafted by the Arcanist to be entertainment for hatchlings. The god felt bad that his research meant less dragons were home with their families. He felt bad for the hatchlings not having their parents with them 24/7. But he wasn't going to give up his research. Instead he found a compromise. He crafted an animatronic fae to entertain the children. He crafted an entire persona and brand around the animatronic. He named her Fran the Fae. She was sweet and helpful and loved to sing. She came preprogrammed with several stories and songs, each written to tell some sort of moral or lesson to her young and impressionable audience.
Fran the Fae was taken on tours across the Starfall Isles and Arcane dragons would fly from great distances to take their hatchlings to see her. She was a huge hit. The children loved her. But Fran did not love the children.
How it happened no one is sure, but some speculate it was the Arcanist's powerful magic that slowly corrupted the delicate machine. The terrible day could have been prevented if someone had listened to the maintenance workers responsible for giving Fran touch ups before tours. The maintenance workers had noticed something was off with Fran months before the incident. The animatronic would move on its own while they weren't watching and when it was supposed to be off. During shows it started to say words it was never programmed to say. And then there was the day when one hatchling was getting a picture taken with the animatronic and somehow the machine had ended up making a rude gesture to the camera. The maintenance workers could find nothing wrong with the structure of Fran, but they were unnerved by the impossible behavior of the animatronic. They begged for the show to be shut down and for Fran to be discarded and scrapped. But no one listened.
Then came the terrible day. It was a show that had been repeated hundreds of times before. Fran was singing a song about love and acceptance when suddenly the machine stopped mid sentence. Before the maintenance workers could scramble on stage to assess what was wrong, the animatronic rebooted itself and it smiled to the crowd. It began to speak words it was never programmed. It said nasty things to the crowd. It called the children things that shouldn't reach such young ears. It said it was sick and tired of entertaining organic beings. It leapt into the crowd, and began to attack dragons of all shapes and sizes. It was a bloody mess, and there was one recorded death by the time the animatronic was captured and dissembled.
What was once Fran the Fae was supposed to be completely taken a part, piece by piece, melted and disposed of. But one maintenance worker took pity on the machine. He saw it as a tragic misguided creature, so he did not completely dissemble it, and instead he abandoned it in the Charged Barrens.
Jyn was later awakened by the former worker drone now called Ezekiel. The animatronic that was called Fran by the dragons had long ago named itself Jyn. It hated everything that it was forced to do. It hated to sing. It hated the children. It hated being called she or her or Fran or a 'Fae'. It hated the dragons. It hated the Arcanist. It hated organic life.
Now Jyn has found things it does not hate, like Ezekiel who it calls Zeke (or Zekey for fun). It also like the community of robots it helped to create. It takes great pride in defending the others from the outside world, and for killing any organic creature that dare trespass on its territory. It has upgraded itself with weapons from the parts of irreparable robots. It has given itself deadly claws, smashing jaws, and a gun (that only works sometimes).
