Biography
"Please give me art. I'm beautiful and important and I deserve it!"
The thrum of a thousand souls’ energies stir in Missara’s pearl. Using this strange and unique power, Missara can breathe life into the lifeless - animating robots that were once dead, heavy metal.
Together with her robotic assistant, Cottan, and her partner in drone creation, Carolyas, Missara hopes to breathe life to a whole colony of Soul Drones, creating a beautiful, functioning hive.
Missara was born with the ability to animate objects, although she did not know how to harness this ability until she was a teenager. As a young dragon, she would give energy to her dolls, and watch them bumble around before falling over minutes later. With practise, minutes turned to hours. But the dolls were not the ideal vessel. She had to expand. By asking cryptic questions to local mechanics, and bargaining with parts-sellers, Missara was eventually able to build a whole, full-sized dragon robot. She named her Cottan, her new assistant. She did not expect Cottan to work as well as she did. Missara’s souls were clearly suited to a more draconic vessel, because Cottan has survived for years so far, and shows no signs of slowing down. Cottan’s sustained life, to Missara, was evidence of a success.
Then, a truly mysterious thing happened: another cyborg dragon showed up on her doorstep, famished, and mumbling incomprehensibly about voices and directions. After she nursed him back to health, she attempted to extract his story out of him. But Carolyas had almost no memories to tell. He did know one thing though: there should be more of him, and Missara was the perfect dragon to collaborate with for this goal.
Since then, Missara has become something of an expert in the art of robot-building. She could identify where a bolt belongs just by looking at it. She knows how everything goes together. She can often be found busying in the workshop, following her own blueprints and fashioning new features.
Together, the pair scavenge for parts, create drones, give them tasks, and develop the hive. Missara has not outgrown her old ways; sometimes she will still animate a little doll friend for fun. But her true purpose is full drone-making. She leaves most of the directing and organising the drones to Carolyas. For herself, harnessing and developing her ability is the largest priority.
Her main concern is her complete lack of agency over how the lives she creates turn out. Often, Carolyas and her are stuck with an “evil” drone, that seems bent on destruction and disobedience. In these cases, the pair are forced to strike down the drone and begin anew. It raises questions for them about the nature of Missara’s powers; does she have ultimate control over them, or is something else, or someone else, at play? Was this theoretical bigger entity responsible for Carolyas’ creation?
All these questions are left for Missara to answer, but she is confident she will one day answer them. As a living dragon rather than a cyborg, Missara has more of a personality than Carolyas. Although she can be serious and ambitious, she tries to inject humour wherever she can. Spending all of her time around automated personalities takes a toll on her sometimes, but she finds that the more dragons she creates, the more organic their personalities begin to feel. Perhaps she is just getting to know them better - after all, Cottan feels just like an old friend.
