Biography

Welcome to the Kingdom of
⊱ V I N D R A A G ⊰
(Pronounced with a growl)

Introduction
Vindraag is a thriving kingdom located in the eastern ribs of Cloudscrape Crags, in the mountanous terrain of Southern Icefield. The kingdom has been isolated and inaccessible for centuries, but on account of the shrinking continent and globalized trade, Vindraag has begun to attract more and more visitors and business partners. This is a welcomed change for the denizens (locally called Draigians), even if they can act a little prudish towards outsiders.

kit9M2k.png ‣ Location
The kingdom resides edged around jagged mountaintops, near a cliff facing The Reclaimer's Glacier and Dripcave Dregs. The climate this far above the sea level is oftentimes snowy, and winds blow at harsh speeds that make navigation via flying quite challenging. For this reason, a journey to the kingdom is recommended to be had by foot, lest another unfortunate soul gets lost and succumbed to the terrain.

A dragonmade path leads to Vindraag via Snowsquall Tundra, but the route is rugged and uneven, sometimes even crossing large chasms and steep climbs. A route exists via Reclaimer's Glacier as well, but many hostile beasts reside in the untouched forests that the path bridges, so a traveler would have to be at least well seasoned with combat to brave the journey.

‣ History
Despite its challenging geological location and harsh climates, the kingdom has miraculously cultivated a healthy economy which it operates in collaboration with the scarce settlements around. It has a working trade system, a military, and culture.

It has been a recent change for the clan's habitants to breach out for trade deals to enrich their own market, and newcomers are a treasure beyond others. Unfortunately however, only few settle for good. The terrain is difficult to navigate and the weather is terrible, continually discouraging outsiders to stick around for long. Outside of the kingdom, Vindraag's culture isn't considered the most refined, and especially its traditional cuisine is widely disliked.

Not only that, but Vindraag has been in very hostile relations with neighboring clans for centuries on account of scarce resources, and although the kingdom is working towards more diplomatic relations for the future, the threat of an immediate attack is very feasible, as political relations fluctuate.

Because of this history of aggression, Vindraag's cornerstone is in its militia, consisting of professionally trained, recruited knights and paladins. Knightsmanship is so engraved in its history, that The Academy of the High Order was instituted into the kingdom's royal castle to keep up the tradition of paladinhood.
‣ High Order
This cultural and militaristic institute resides in the magnificent royal castle built on the jagged, mountainous edges overlooking the rest of the kingdom below. The building is thus elevated, literally, to give it an appearance of grandiosity and nobleness. This landmark is incredibly dear and precious for the locals, and a huge source of pride in their identity as Draigians. It is also a considerable attraction for tourism.

Few are allowed to approach the building, and even fewer are let inside. The building houses mainly diplomats and a few ambassadors, as well as renowned researchers, mages and cultural developers. But most important of all, it houses The Four Swords.

• The Four Swords
The four staple paragons of Vindraag, these four champions are the pride and joy of the kingdom. They're the most renowned saviors of the modern Vindraag, and the founders of the Academy of The High Order. They oversee and lead the schooling of paladin candidates, having retired from their duty of paladinhood after centuries of glorious service.

• The Academy of the High Order
This luxurious and notoriously secretive school has gained undying attention and interest ever since its foundation. It's widely regarded as the most prestigious academy in the Southern Icefield, if not the best at training knights in all of Southern Sornieth. Incredibly select few get chosen to the curriculum, and a new roster of candidates are evaluated every five years. For many decades, only registered Draigians could enter the selection, but recently a much needed change was made to allow anyone from Sornieth to attend.

A candidate's journey through training is said to be gruesome, and undoubtedly believed to be the worst years a dragon can go through. The student vows their life for the Order, practically giving up their independence as a citizen in order to gain the honorary title and the responsibility of a knight. The candidate trains in merciless settings under the supervision of The Four Swords, and studies subjects such as history, war strategy, arts and science in the program designed by the leading professors of Vindraag.

It is for the school's demanding nature that only few are chosen, as the path of paladinhood is set in stone - there is no room to have a change of heart later on if you receive the recognition of being chosen.

Trivia
• Of all modern changes to the otherwise traditional clan, the new imported cuisine and recipes are by far the most welcomed ones. Draigians are stereotypically bad at preparing food - and those locals who say they always enjoyed pickled lemming or fermented minnow? They are lying.

• Draigians are typically secluded by nature, and the older generation is more aversive towards outsiders, but the younger generations widely enjoy visitors and sharing their culture and space with them. Draigians are usually described to be shaped by their environment; unrelenting, cold, and at times a little overwhelming. Their seclusion has formed a strong sense of community and togetherness amongst the kingdom, and the denizens form deep bonds with eachother. Despite the harsh words said about them, a true Draigian never lets a visitor feel themself lonely nor lost in Vindraag.

• Gift-giving is a core virtue in the minds of Draigians, and the value and functionality of the gift usually determines the giver's feelings about the receiver - for example, a courting gesture would be to give a hand-groomed and decorated pelt of a prey to a potential mate, while an unreturned gesture is seen as a sign of mockery.

• Since the kingdom resides in the near vicinity of the Dripcave Dregs, the entry point to the domain of Gaolers, this ancient breed has seemingly taken a special liking to the kingdom, and is the most common ancient breed to be seen here. A Gaoler was also the first ancient dragon to be admitted to the Academy of the High Order.
