The Wildclaws of the Shrieking Wilds tribes are representatives of a martial cultural sphere, where dignity is paramount and loss of face is felt as keenly as loss of limb. So deeply do they love their freedom and their power that one who has once lost either is never fully a person again; it is always better to die than to have been dishonoured and taken in battle.

Emlyn-of-Furiosa, already halfclan, was a captive among the Plagueflight clans for a long, long time. Too long either for self-respect or for a normal life in the place where the wound of the lack of him had long since closed up. But just long enough to lose all sense of flight-loyalty and god-fear.

Having always had a useful knack for light, he made for the ruins of the Ancient Cities, knowing that there were places there where nobody would ever even think about his name. Along the way he met and sired a clutch with a Nocturne bonesetter, who took him back to her clan, a ragtag assemblage of species and lines whose loyalty was rooted in principles familiar enough to feel like home.

Although not necessarily partnered with Danerah, Emlyn considers her a good and true friend, and has been an active participant in his children's lives. If they so choose someday, they may be Imcer, Gensher, Aerith and Noemine-of-Danerah, and although their Wildclaw parent is their father, they still understand enough to pass for children of the opposite circumstance.

But they will not. There are other ways to live, to which they are too used to be limited in the way that Emlyn now understands war limited him.
