Biography

1.png
Subject 058 ("Cinnabar")

female arid fae dragon, Fae aridus

Location: Shattered Plain

Behavior: Hoarding behavior is centered around old armor, as well as the shed exoskeletons of insectile fae dragons, Fae insectalis. Shows particular interest in pieces that cover vulnerable areas (e.g. underbelly, tail), as well as pieces with a similar coloration to F. insectalis. Little interest in gemstones.

Has been living in a F. insectalis hive and has seemingly been accepted into the colony. This kind of mimicry is not unheard of in nature — the barred skira, Skirus barrae, is a known mimic of the rambra, Rambra rambra — but it is unusual and little-studied in members of the Draconidae family.

Notes: I have been tracking this dragon for several years, since I first came across it on an island northeast of the Highland Sanctum, on the border between the Dragonhome and the Viridian Labyrinth, as a hatchling and banded it (left and right wings). Some time later, I was informed by a fellow dragon researcher that the individual was spotted in Terraclae. Intrigued, I decided to travel to the Dragonhome, eventually tracking the subject down in an F. insectalis colony in the Shattered Plain.

Cinnabar is a toxic mercury sulfide ore and the source of vermillion pigments. The first area of the Dragonhome the individual was found in, a former quarry, is known to be a source of cinnabar veins. The subject's pink scales reminded me of the color of the cinnabar deposits I've seen. — A. T.
