What happens when pure magic gets lost in the dark?
She could hardly remember anything from before. She had glimpses of the past, but they were as rare as rays of sunshine in the forest that she called home. Her mind was muddy, her thoughts clouded as if she were always in a state of half sleep and struggle to wake up. Her scales were as durable as steel and sharpened to unusual points; the magic that once flowed peacefully within her had begun to sizzle and burn as if it were too hot to contain. Her words were half-formed; she could only speak this dark magic clearly, and even then, it sounded as if some darker, volatile voice was fighting to replace hers. She no longer recognized the power that poured from her mouth, that formed runes on her scales, that caused dark feathers to grow from her wings. But there was something... intoxicating about it all. Everything about her was suddenly deadly. She suspected, in her previous life, she was not very threatening at all, but now she was a predator. She was dangerous. There was untold depths to her arcane strength, and magics she had yet to discover. Her copper cauldron, nearly burned black, bubbled with new, terrifying recipes, and she suddenly knew the runes to devastating spells. She was alive with potential, and her heart beat with the pulse of the voices from the dark that guided her. Hepheira is the corrupted Queen of the dark, consuming Faeriewood Forest. Located on the edges of the known world, the forest is an immensely dangerous place to be, as few who wander into its depths ever return. It once resembled a healthy thicket, but something, or someone, deep within it has been stirred from eternal slumber by the two lovers who stumbled into the heart of the woods. The intense magic in their bodies was a feast; the forest's once green canopies soured to a deep purple-black, and an impenetrable fog settled between ill, scraping branches.
