Libitina

Hear me, follow me

The wind blows the rain under the shelter, pelting those hiding within with icy droplets and chill. A faint sound keens in the distance, words all but lost to the storm. But one among them hears the call and wonders only for a moment who would dare be out in this death trap. The moment passes, and their eyes grow distant and glassy, fallen under the thrall of a voice just heard through the rain. They slip from the shelter, eyes blank and listening for the faint calls from within the grey. There, they think, and venture forth, deaf to the calls of their friends to return to safety.

Libitina inherited the Incarnation, Reaper aspect. She is unique among all her siblings in that she does not directly take a hand in her victims' doom. Her voice is entrancing, laced with compulsion and magic, and few are completely immune. Those unlucky enough to clearly hear her call through a winter storm have no choice but to venture into it in a futile search for her. A search that always ends the same way: a cold figure left to the elements. Few who follow the voice on the wind are ever found, and none alive.

The few whose bodies are recovered from the elements are found stripped of their spirits, as hollow as a doll, though their expressions often convey the depth of their madness. Libitina walks freely and without danger through all weather and conditions; it is easy to lead followers astray on a wild chase until the can go no further. When her prey has been rendered helpless, only then does she appear to rip the spirit from them, consuming it only to turn immediately to the next victim.

Hers is a darkling existence, forsaken to the storm. The winds grow stronger as she consumes the lives of the fallen, and none will see the madness born of solitude save the compelled victims who fuel it. For none may brave the vortex and live.
