Hailing from the Scarred Wastelands, the only sign of Astiziel's heritage are his blood red eyes, as the rest of him looks like it could have been crafted by the Lightweaver himself. Adorned in shimmering golden armour, a carefully woven shawl and with his trusty old sword ever at his side, Astiziel is a shimmering example of a lair protector. He takes his duties seriously and is the second most fierce fighter in the lair, behind the likes of Errenkai.

While his commitment to duty is second to none, however, his commitment to relationships of any kind seems lacklustre. Astiziel is a stalwart ally, but he can be something of a fair-weather friend simply due to an aloof nature. He has mated several females over his lifetime, and while it would be too extreme to call him a promiscuous male, he doesn't seem to care for finding a soulmate to spend the rest of his long life with either. This is not to say he doesn't care for friends or females, nor that he doesn't value spending time with them, but Astiziel simply doesn't seem to understand that certain relationships demand specific levels of commitment from him that, often times, he fails to meet.

Astiziel's parents were both servants of the Icewarden, and so Astiziel's nature as a dragon of Plague brought about many questions. In truth, Astiziel doesn't have many answers for his childhood; his parents were already gone by the time he had hatched, and he never knew them. According to the Mirror that adopted him, a rather callous sort of female though not uncaring, he was an unplanned accident that was never supposed to have happened. Astiziel simply never questioned the explanation he was given. He never felt that he much fit in with the Plague lair however, and after learning to fight and fend for himself thanks to his adoptive mother's teachings, Astiziel chose to leave for new, brighter lands.

The lands of his choosing were, in the end, those of the Lightweaver's. With his glossy and glistening appearance, Astiziel fit right in. His first lair was a large place, bustling with many dragons of shapes and sizes. Astiziel never fit in very well, but he temporarily settled there together with an odd and strange Pearlcatcher. Here, he honed his skills as a fighter and did his best to raise his brood, quickly coming to the conclusion that he wasn't good at dealing with hatchlings. Eventually he couldn't deal with the size of the lair combined with the strange behaviour of his mate, and he moved on to a second, smaller lair. Here he didn't stay for very long, siring one small clutch before he left and not thinking much of what he left behind.
