Attire

Gouhun Ore, a darkly colored precious ore, makes up much of their apparel. Silver, red, gold, or dark blue robes make up their inner attire. Most are tight-fitting, allowing them mobility during assassination missions.

Vambraces cuff their long sleeves up, and hidden weapons tainted with dark, shadowy wisps of toxins can be shot out with deadly precision. Chifeng crows may also hide poison-coated needles under their tongues, in the folds of their robes, within their waist belts, etc.

Culture & Customs
  • They say that when the first time a koi touches the Dragon Gates in its leap but fails to leap over it, its body becomes elongated, and it shifts to the shape of what is now known as an Arowana. When it is ready, it shall leap again, so the original story of the “carp leaping over the Dragon Gates” continues and is referred to as the “Second Leap”. It gives you the hint that you can be given a second chance to prove your worth, as long as you know when it is the best time to do so.
  • Forehead emblems (huadian) symbolize status, power, and most importantly, it shows that you are a Chifeng crow, so even if you have no pass, other Chifeng members can tell who you are solely by your emblem. You cannot fake being another crow because the paint is of a special mixture from the secret room of the inner fortress that cannot be replicated. If you desire to wash it off in any normal situation, you must also use a special mixture of herbs to be able to properly get rid of it.
  • Death - upon death, Chifeng has the custom of setting bodies ablaze and burning them to ashes so that the dust can fly off in the wind. This is to emphasize their belief that a dead body’s spirit may only be completely freed when the body is no more. What will remain of the Chifeng individual will be their ling pai, which is then hung up upon one of the branches of the ancient Five Dragon Head Tree, so that they are never to be forgotten for their sacrifices and efforts to the Chifeng Fortress. The ling pai also symbolizes the memories of the individual, so it is worn wherever the individual goes, thus another one created if the former is destroyed upon the death of the individual would not compare to, nor be hung on the Wulong tree.
"As long as the ling pai remains, then the spirit of the deceased remain."
  • The Emperor has passed; the silks of obstruction hath stolen his breath. Failure, some may say, yet what he has achieved, no one else has been able to secondly act and be comparable — Hui Huang Commemoration Day
  • Beautiful plumage is a must, but Chifeng is more so known for its beautiful sword dances. Their blades are said to contain part of their souls, though this may just be an exaggeration. Yet even if it were an exaggeration, it would not be a bad one, for the flow of their blades is smooth enough to make a spectator wonder whether or not it had a spirit of its own with how it seems to be moving alongside its wielder, rather than being swung around like a heavy lethal weapon.
  • They say that as an assassin, you should never be without your weapon. In the case of Chifeng, they use weapons ranging from blade-tipped fans to crossbows to automatic weapon traps. Although swords are a common practice to brighten up festivals, Chifeng does not use them as a primary weapon. At most, it is merely a decoration slung over their backs or hung at their waists.
  • The curse of the Gu, parasitic creatures that may be nurtured in the inner fortress, hence their secretive nature.
  • It is said the first Chifeng King died meditating with his breath upon a cold winter day, and snow immediately started drifting out of the sky. Because of this, the elders say that snow represents the pained tears of the Heavens.
  • Spirits are very much an important part of Chifeng culture. While all believe in and may even hear spirits, only the stronger crows may hear the voices of more ancient spirits.
