FICKLE FIGHTER

Oberon is a narcissist in every sense of the word. He is vain, conceited, and concerned primarily with his image. He is not the kind of dragon to offer help when it's needed- in fact, he shuns most work. The only things he's motivated to do are upkeep himself, and his personal space. As such, he is not well loved by most in the clan.

When Mercer started looking around for dragons he could take with him on his trek across Sornieth, it was of the opinion of multiple dragons that perhaps Oberon should go along as well. Oberon himself of course immediately rejected the idea-- at least, until Sahne pulled him aside and gave him a little bit of 'friendly' encouragement.

Despite Oberon's self-proclaimed inability to fight, a hefty looking axe is among the things he packs for the trip.

He admits, maybe he did have some fighting experience. Though he spent an amount of time upset about being drafted for such a grueling campaign, after a few weeks and a lot of melodramatic sighing, he resigned himself to the idea. There would be no sense in making the dragons he was about to spend a year of his life with hate him, after all.

A couple hundred battles began to show him that fighting and victory came with a sense of accomplishment-- and, over time, watching his allies backs and slinging potions begin to instill him with a sense of purpose. He was beginning to realize that looking after other people actually felt good.

It would take a while for his personality to reflect this. Oberon spent a long few months maintaining a carefully constructed aura of standoffishness and minor disdain. Perhaps it was something about Mercer's meek disposition, or Raum's ever-patient care, but eventually, he began to soften.

He's glad to be back home, that's for sure. He's missed his amenities and makeup and flowers and fancy food. He's still a little haughty, and a little terse with some of the dragons he's had spats with before, but overall he's much more agreeable and his rudeness is a fraction of what it used to be.

He lingers around near Mercer quite a bit. He'd never admit it, but being near him instills a desire to protect him. Mercer does him the courtesy of politely pretending not to notice.
