Ace - The Queen's Guard
Ace is a hot-shot mercenary with a grudge against the wealthy. Since she was young, she had a knack for fighting which got her thrown out of her adoptive parent's home. She was left without a home for about a year before being picked up by Vesper and Bond. She was cold to them but warmed up to Vesper before the end of their contract. Ace enjoys playing with daggers and dice games, even though she's not very good at it. She plays against Vesper and often regrets it because she always loses. She's a sore loser and easily angered. If she dislikes someone, she lets them know. |

The Mercenary and the Mistress A sandsurge sat wearily on her hind legs, balancing a dagger on her claws. She was so bored and she had no work. At this rate she'd probably starve! She tilted her head and wrinkled her snout as a finely-dressed skydancer appeared before her in silk robes. "What do you want?" she asked. She smiled a toothy grin. "You...are a mercenary. Yes?" the skydancer inquired with her, "I'd like to hire you for escort. I will provide meals and you will be paid handsomely thereafter." "I suppose I can work for you, when are we leaving?" "We leave right now." "Woah there! What makes you think you can get an escort contract so last minute?" "Well, unless you don't want the contract? I can go elsewhere." |

She shook herself back into reality. "Hehe, it's really no problem, let's go!" Ace followed the skydancer back to her carriage. The carriage was finely crafted out of shoddy thorn branches. Whoever did that must've been real desperate. Inside the carriage was an obelisk dressed in a fine silk suit. Bunch of rich guys. How fun. "Now this will only be a short trip. We are heading to the next city north of here. I entrust that you can guide us through these desolate woods," the skydancer spoke. "Of course," replied Ace, "so who do I have the pleasure of working for?" "I am Queen Vesper. The obelisk is my King." Ace's jaw dropped. She's taking care of royalty? No matter. She'll get the job done and get fed. Several hours passed and Ace successfully transported the royalty to the next city, just as Vesper asked. She leaned against the carriage while the two entered the city. What a boring transport. She munched on slabs of wolf meat and scoffed down bottles of purified water. The royalty soon left the city, who knows what went on. But Ace was pretty curious. "So...what happened in there?" Ace asked. "Diplomatic relations, we were seeking an allyship with our neighbors," Vesper replied. Boring! Ace began walking them back to their city. "Where will you go after this, dear?" Vesper asked through the carriage window. "There's nowhere for me to go. I just wander for work," Ace said. "You don't return to a family? You seem young." "I don't have a family. I've been abandoned for years." The party fell silent. Once the party returned to the city, Vesper paid Ace. "You know, if you have nowhere to go you can always stay here," Vesper said. "You would really let me?" Ace asked, confused. She had been cold to the queen, and now she was offering her a home? "I would like for you to be my personal guard. I will keep you fed and sheltered. I will ensure your skills are worked and refined." |
