She’s as complicated as her husband but, thankfully, much nicer to be around.
Ethel is even less keen to talk about her past than Hugo is. How they met and how she came to be his wife is something she doesn’t discuss out of respect for him.
Let's just say he got her out of a very difficult-to-escape situation and while she was very wary of him (she witnessed him do more than a few non-legal things) she was grateful for his help and assistance.
At the time they were both looking for something and they stuck together out of necessity. Ethel wanted to start a new life and have a family, Hugo wanted a way to fly under the radar. In the end they both got what they wanted, just not how they thought they would.
Ethel had a clutch of eggs. The father? Hugo.
She did want children but didn’t plan to have them with Hugo. Hugo wanted a way to pass as ‘normal’ and unassuming but didn’t think it would be like this. Now they were stuck in this situation but a long talk between the two of them made it clear that this could work.
Hugo may not feel emotions the same way that others do but he is loyal to Ethel and very protective of their children. Ethel finally had kids and she maintains a healthy understanding with her husband about his work and their relationship.
Ironically, Hugo now has everything his own father has and more.
Ethel is a gentle soul with a kind disposition. She loves kids and always wanted to be a nurse. Hugo personally paid for her schooling and tuition to live her dream and she’s very happy with her line of work now. She gets along well with the rest of Hugo’s family (minus Aleksandir.)
