Darkoth the Mimic Kin

66055982.png

Night of the Nocturne is largely viewed as a season for mischief, but some also whisper it's a time of unusual miracles. Darkoth's egg had been poorly from the day it had been laid, and it looked more and more that he wouldn't make it out of his shell. Little did his parents know, a stranger soon paid a visit to their nest late in the night, lending their powers to heal the unborn chick. Darkoth hatched the next day, much to everyone's surprised delight. The celebration sadly did not last, for he was quickly discovered to be... off. Not only did he have many, many eyes, but he started changing shapes later that same evening. He'd been cured not just by any casual creature, but at the claws of a mimic, and the resulting magic splice had bound to the hatchling's very being. Though he'd survived against the odds, he grew up shunned and bullied, driven from his clan at an early age.

At the same time, mimics had been more active than any NotN ever before. Some were quick to blame the resurfacing of the Veilspuns. Whatever the source, chaos was at an all-time high. Clan Pokéfan quickly realized they had no proper way of communicating with the mischievous creatures, despite having granted a few new homes in their own halls. By a meeting of fate, Darkoth was stumbled upon and promptly invited in. He was nervous at first, even going so far as to keep his extra eyes closed around others, hiding his strangeness as much as possible. After much encouragement, especially from Carol, he gradually started to open up and feel more comfortable with himself. He's still slightly shy, and speaks with a fair bit of hissing, but he's gone as far as using his shapeshifting abilities to entertain young hatchlings. He's also very successful at putting mimics to ease, his altered magic identifying him as kin and making the pranksters more willing to talk.

Harbek the Ectoplasmime

Ectoplasmime

Nobody's too sure where Harbek came from. Rumor has it that he showed up at Darkoth's side shortly after he was driven from his home. Some say that the mimic brought the young dragon to a secret valley of his kind. Others speculate he trained Darkoth how to fully use his mimic-bound powers. A few even whisper that Harbek was the sympathetic stranger that saved his partner in the first place. Whatever may be the truth, the toothy Familiar keeps watch as a doting godfather, often found hopping along behind like an eager puppy.

Harbek doesn't just busy himself with Darkoth, either. He will happily guide lost or frightened hatchlings back to their nests and parents, fetch forgotten toys, and many other tasks that need doing for young dragons. He even willingly helps the clan alchemists, knowing that Mimic Powder is difficult to come by outside the NotN season. Even as kind as he is, Harbek does still follow his nature to pull a small prank now and again, but he makes sure it's all in good fun and won't upset any of his victims too much. After all, most mimics are mischievous, not malicious, and simply don't realize their line of acceptable behavior is in a different place than most dragons.
