Biography
Berengaria
Imperator, Bargain Area
she/her
serious • blunt • reserved
Berengaria was born into royalty under the name Imperator, the heir to her birth clan's throne, but when she realized that she identified more as a princess than a prince she ran away from home, afraid to face her father's wrath. She knew he'd be furious that his prized heir was no longer eligible - the clan only allowed males to rule - and her father was known for becoming extremely irrational and violent when angered. So she fled the clan and changed her name, even making up a fictional past for herself. She claims to have been an ordinary dragon who felt out of place in her birth clan, a tale inspired in a way by the truth. She's starting to suspect that her new clanmates don't fully believe her, though...
The fact that she's not the most talkative of dragons makes it easier to hide her past, and her serious, blunt nature doesn't make many dragons think of royalty - and neither does her tendency to lose her balance and fall over while turning tight corners. She's straightforward and can come across as being a little intense, but she's kind and well-mannered despite it all. She's also very easygoing when it comes to names and pronouns: she isn't bothered when others misgender her, although she'd prefer if they didn't. She does, however, mind the nickname Bargain Area, which Starlight called her at one point and which somehow spread to other members of the clan.
Interestingly, Berengaria can communicate effortlessly with psywurms, having learned their communication methods at a young age. She claims that this is because she had one as a familiar when she was a hatchling, but in reality she learned because her father kept a pair of brilliant psywurms as pets and she simply spent a lot of time with them. This skill tends to impress other dragons to no end, flustering Berengaria quite a bit.
Fandragon of SS Imperator, later known as RMS Berengaria. After being given to the Cunard Line as war reparations, she was the running mate to Mauretania and Aquitania. She was nicknamed Limperator early in her career, as she would roll badly in heavy seas and tended to list while turning, among various other issues, and was later jokingly called Bargain Area due to being used for Prohibition-dodging cruises in the 1920s. Some sources suggest that Kaiser Wilhelm II insisted that she be referred to with male pronouns, although if true this didn't apply after she was handed over to Cunard and renamed.
