When Caffeine was still one of the kids in the streets, a stranger had told Maia, his sister in spirit, that he would give her good food- more of the food that he had given her at the time of their conversation. Clean water, a soft bed, a warm room. A home. He promised that he would take good care of her, and Caffeine came home to an empty bed. His keen sense of smell allowed him to find her boarding a huge... was that a pirate ship??

So into the ship he went. Attempted to, at least. He was, unsurprisingly, stopped. Now, Caffeine prides himself in patience and civility. He abhorred how frantic and rowdy the streets were, and so he acted the opposite. Fortunately, no one has touched him nor his little sister despite his distinct ways. No one dared to, not after he gouged three of the four eyes of a mirror who tried to make Maia his meal. That day was an exception to his usual stoic nature.

Caffeine caused... a commotion, to put it mildly. It made the boss of the ship himself come out to see the ruckus. The skydancer studied the fae's face, and in his red eyes, he saw something burning. They weren't just embers flickering after a fire has run out of flames, no. The heat in his eyes were a wildfire; staring too long meant getting a third-degree searing, if you ever manage to survive.

And hearing the sweet voice of the little magenta dragon magically turned the fire into something... kinder.

Captain and head, Knil offered his hand. He gave a condensed version of his promise to Maia: "You are safe, now that you are here." The fae took a glance at his sister's gentle smile, a good minute at the hand, three more at the skydancer's face.

Knil and Caffeine have never touched. Not even once.

But Maia was now the ship's beloved princess, and Caffeine, strong, brave, and ever stoic, a loyal member of the crew.
