Lore notes:
*Harpist
*Name means quietness in Japanese
Scatter the wind with your wings
Spread your wings towards the skies
Take no heed
Of the greed
That drenches the land
Nobody can demand
Your heart
Your mind
Or your soul
To be theirs
With each stroke
Breathes freedom
Freedom for all
Instead of a wall
Higher
Soar into the abyss
And enter the bliss
Of this untethered domain
And care not for the confining flames

Narrative I picked up my harp and plucked each one of the strings in a certain order. With a deep breath, I began to strum a sorrowful tune. The skies were dull and lifeless. Not a single flower bloomed; not a single bird sung its song. There was nothing to cherish anymore. Back then, there was a clan of dragons. The land flourished then, and there were no chains that confined one. I had a happy life, a simple one. My family was still there. I had friends that I could play with. But a tyrant in disguise came and ruined it all. Destroyed a civilization that had lived since centuries. He came that one mournful day as a beggar, hoping for us to take him in. We did, of course. Our lives were almost impeccable - what reason is there to not help someone in need? Perhaps we shouldn't have let our guard down. This was our one mistake, and it destroyed us all. This beggar was no ordinary dragon. He had his way of fooling us. The tyrant even distracted us long enough for his troops to invade. We fought a bloody battle, and I can't say that we secured victory. The stashes of weapons and defensive armor were guarded by the tyrant's army. In the end, the tyrant took full leadership of our clan. Doom fell upon us at that instant. We became mere servants to a greater and more powerful being. Our lives were miserable, while the tyrant thrived. We had no chance of turning the tables. You see, our clan was so prosperous that we hadn't thought of the possibilities of the future. That was our one fault. I have lived to silently tell of this story. I have lived to show others proof that a civilization as developed and grand as my own could fall in a single slip. The days of spending time with dragons have long gone. I am now a sojourner. I do not rely on societies, but I aid them to avoid the mistake made long ago. I sometimes visit my homeland, only to reminisce on joys that no longer existed there. Every time, the scene of the tyrant becomes all too vibrant in my mind. But I remind myself - that is good. The sharper the details, the better the story. Hopefully, I can some day see the ruins of a civilization rise once again to a prosperous clan. |
