Why are you here? You found a cave in the Starwood Strand that led deep, deep into the earth. It only leads in one direction, yet you still feel lost as you traverse it. Several steps in and the gloom obscures the entrance. A white bat flutters above your head, startling you. It didn't make any noise like bats usually do. The ground is wet beneath your feet, and you realize you must have reached the sea. You continue. (Why?) Because. You must.

The water is up to your knees. You continue. The air smells of dead things in the sea and ozone. The sky? Down here, so deep? You continue. The water is higher, quicker, up to your chin. You'll have to swim soon. You have to swim now. You continue. You swim. You swim. You swim further. Your muscles burn. Your breath comes in ragged gasps. Your mouth tastes of seawater. There is a cave up ahead made of smooth, white stone. In it is a raised island made of the same material.

You claw yourself up onto the stone, lungs heaving. There is someone already here. You feel him before you see him. And when you see him, you cannot. His bright, empty eyes turn to you and your gaze slides off his face like water off a stone. "Hello, Lost Thing," he whispers. His voice fills the cavern and shakes you to your core. It is not a kind sound. "What have you come to leave behind?

Salt is the god of the East, lost faces, time, and memory. He gave away his name long ago. White bats are sacred to him. If you see one, you have his attention. Use it wisely.
