Aelius is one of those dragons that has what I like to call "accidental charisma." He doesn't mean to be as charming as he is most of the time, especially since he has an extremely hard time with small talk when it doesn't pertain to something he's interested in. He's just got one of those personalities other dragons can't help but like, even if he'd prefer others leave him alone as often as not.
Aelius has a sharp enough tongue to keep most dragons away if he wants to, which is good, because he's not a good physical combatant at all. His magic, while impressive, is not particularly honed for battle, and he's even worse if it comes to using tooth and claw. He's got a surprisingly strong grip with his coils, though, which has proven difficult for some enemies to deal with in the past.
Aelius isn't dumb by any means, but he definitely isn't the sort of dragon that uses his head. If I had to pick something he stands out slightly in, it's booksmarts, but even that's stretching it a bit. He's remarkably naive for someone who's lived as long as he has, but I get the sense that's something he doesn't like talking about. It seems like a sticking point from the past he's tried so hard to leave behind.
I did not think it was possible for a dragon to literally stumble onto an ancient treasure that would be enough to financially support them for the rest of their life, but Aelius did that somehow. He's also lucky that he lives here now, so if anyone wanted to steal his residual wealth, they'd have a handful of very scary dragons to deal with before they even got a look at Aelius.
Aelius's magic is strange in a way I'm not quite sure how to describe. Lots of dragons use performative magic for stage shows and firework displays and the like, just like Aelius does, but his always seems like that's what it was meant to do, rather than magic designed for battle or trickery doing something else. It's not illusion magic, it's not magic that deceives a dragon's mind in any way, it's just... performative. I feel like I'm rambling like an idiot. It has to be seen to be believed, I guess.
Aside from one slightly misshapen hind wing that makes Aelius use a bit more effort than he'd like to fly and has resulted in some repeated strained muscle injuries, he's in remarkable health for a 400-year-old dragon.I definitely look my almost-400 and he doesn't look a day over 150, it's not fair
