Guru

┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛

Descript1 | Descript2 | Descript3

Guru is one among plenty spice and food sellers among the Altar's market. He travels with the clan without burden, enjoying the band's company and stories to spice up his own, joining the group has improved his well being beyond his expectations.

The mirror was once a top-ranking warrior from a distant land, a threat to their enemies and a treat to watch in action for his fellow clanmates due to his crafty way of fight. His victorious streak cut harsh by foul play during a campaign, rendering him unfit to continue fighting due to the injuries to his limbs and belly and thus sent home in limping and in shame.

The humiliation unmotivating the young dragon from making the recovery that was expected from him, instead reminiscing the past victories with bitterness as even with their best clan's healers he would be unlikely to recover to the full extent he desired; the lesions on his hind legs and right arm too deep to heal properly, leaving them on a constant pain whenever the mirror tried to force them too much. No matter the attitude he tried to take, Guru felt useless by the fate handed to him.

One day, long after that failed campaign, a travelling group asked to set market on their clan's territory. Guru, now working as a trainer for the guards of one of the wealthy families of his clan, heard from the gossip and went to check out their wares in hope to find new tools and perhaps a curious trinket for his gardening hobby.

Once he arrived to the place he stared in awe at their display of tents and stalls, the group was not as big as he expected from the words of his co-workers but they certainly had a style to them, there were wooden trinkets, toys and jewelry and food of many types adorning the rugs on the dirt and the tables and poles on top. The merchants seemed happy with their flow of customers, conversing and haggling around like any merchant group like them would be doing, but from the corner of his eyes Guru could tell something off from their performance. He bought a couple of snacks and a collection of spades that caught his attention and went to sit by to catch any rare behaviour from the group.

Guru wouldn't remember when exactly he had fallen asleep, nor when some other dragon would be poking at him, asking whatever, making him move his somnolient self only to wake up with his old injured limbs binded yet feeling better all the same,

almost like the good old days you would say

The guarding eyes of the dragons surrounding him making the mirror jump with surprise, all relief replaced with demands to know whoever had done whatever this was to him. One teal and brown colored spiral made themselves heard, "we, well...we thought this was what you were looking for? at least that's what our superior said", the spiral inspected the bindings carefully maneuvering the one on Guru's hand in search of pain or irritation from the mirror; upon finding none, he continued, "these worked better than prior attempts, they fit you well too". Attempts. Plenty, to ease, to accomodate, days gone but gratitude owed. The mirror had plenty of questions but the spiral was too shy to spill details, instead telling him to talk to their superior who would be nearby by as they would be leaving his clan soon. So he did.

The guardian was indeed outside, helping gathering rolls of cloth and tables from their market, not really paying attention to the mirror at her side. Guru voiced his concerns anyways, asking about their intentions -if they knew of him and who were they, why heal what their best couldn't after so much time, what would they even ask in return for this wondrous act-, the guardian simply nodded along the questions replying in short and clearly practiced comments, only the last statement making Guru conscious of where he was standing, "The Altar wants to offer you a place, normally we are set to round up the passed or in the other case, the living come to us begging shelter. But you might be an outlier here, they were curious of you".

Guru mulled over the offer, he would have to leave his home and those that still knew of him, he could also leave with the gift conceded to him but after so long without tasting combat he was not confident to take that life again and risk injury once more. He went to catch up to the guardian now with his decision made, "I'll follow you". The guardian looked him up and down and smiled, "Then gather what belongs to you, we will wait".

Fast forward to his current location, scouting around the clan's camp for the night, the climate around this place cold and biting but nothing he wasn't used to and with the help of the lantern by his side he couldn't complain. They had no enemies nor dangers to be on the look out for, he simply took the role to have time to think alone; at first he had feared to be placed in a combative role, now serving a new lord, but there was no lord? the 'leaders' disclosed as much. Whoever they followed orders from was not violent in kind, ambitious? maybe, but within reason, he supposed.

But the issue still nagged at his mind, instead of taking advantage of his healed self and his knowledge of battle to exploit for their goals, this being seemingly only expected his rest and betterment, nudging him to take a more lax position on the jobs the other dragons would take part in; Guru had some experience with plants so he set himself as a seller for such, the idea seemed pleasant enough to the leaders as well so he stayed. The change of routine was unanticipated to say the least but Guru stuck to the changes without much fuss.

Either way, if the opportunity ever presents itself, he will enjoy to flex his old tricks. For tonight, maybe it's time to rest.
