Biography

Subspecies: Adamantine
Created by: ShadowSnatcher (ID:448434)

Overview

This subspecies originated from The Molten Scar. Formed from a group of Seekers that had been assigned the vast lava pools. When Gaolers decided seekers were no longer needed this select group had unfortunately been overlooked. With no word from their commanders and modern dragons settling the land the forgotten group were forced to make their way into the deeper lava pools. For centuries they hid themselves, observing the settlers from afar. However, upon the Gaoler's return the overlooked group was tracked down. After learning they no longer had to hide themselves, Adamantine's have since spread across Sornieth. Although most seem to prefer their domain of origin fire and the domain of water.

Clan life

Adamantine's typically live with their mate and their young. Before settling down they prefer to travel to every domain weighing the pros and cons of each location. As they are incredibly family orientated they will ensure their neighbors are of the same mind and kind. Ensuring that when they settle there will be no conflict.

Most of them will integrate with a clan if given the chance. They are incredibly protective of their "newfound family" and will do their best to ensure its safety. Due to their protective and nurturing nature many Adamantine's are tasked with guarding nests full of hatchlings belonging to exhausted parents. With them being so willing to babysit most of the clans children some have given them the honorary title of "elder sibling" or "uncle/auntie".

While most do offer support to parents rearing their young. Other Adamantine's have began taking in any orphan they may find. Whether it be a lost egg or hatchling they happened upon on their journeys. Strangers have also been known to abandon their young at a clans threshold if it is known an Adamantine dwells within it.

Characteristics

Due to their exposure to the Molten Scar's lava pool this specie has taken on an unusual appearance. Ranging from fins to help aide them through the coursing lava and the very transformation of their scales. From a distance it appears as if under these gentle giants scales lava is surging. While they do not actually have lava under their scales it is believed that this alteration is for camouflage. Developed for an Adamantine that would be resurfacing for air. Also included in this unusual appearance is a nictitating membrane to help keep their eyes clear from debris.

Along with a change in their physical features, their exposure to the lava pools have given this species the ability to survive immense pressure and heat.

Species Behavior

Adamantine's throughout their life typically only take on one partner. Only in death and depending on ones age will they seek a new companion. When the pairing have young both parents are incredibly devoted in raising them. It is common in an Adamantine clan that along with caring for their young they will take on the care of other clanmates hatchlings as well. Taking turns in shifts with other parents of the clan. "It takes a clan to raise hatchlings." These guys take that saying quite literally.

As the young grow their parents are kept busy teaching them vocabulary and how to write. While the hatchlings grow older they are taught vital skills by those most skilled in the Adamantine clan. For example the most experienced forager will lead a class in foraging once a week, while the most experienced weaver will teach the next week. Once each hatchling has grown old enough to grasp these skills fully and fend for themselves they will continue to reside with their parents. Helping them raise their siblings if there is any. Only when they have found their own partner will they leave their family, even then they try to remain close to home.

With the dispersal of Adamantine's into the world it is not uncommon to see this ancient breed carrying around precious young of their own and other species on their back. If by chance an Adamantine comes across an abandoned nest or lost hatchling they will most likely be taken in.

Battle Strategies

These dragons remain unconfrontational and would rather talk things out than fight. Only if you threaten their clan or friends will they enter battle.

While they received no special ability to help fend off attackers. You would take great caution in picking a fight with an Adamantine. They may have no more battle advantage than your typical Gaoler but these guys have helped raise most of their clan members. Who would gladly come to their aid. So if you'd like to take on almost an entire clan it's your own call.
