______ Dirtfoot looked up from rolling a huge rock out of the way of his den entrance. The birds, usually so quiet..were now calling and chirping up a storm, fluttering around like butterflies. He looked down, and stepped back in surprise as new growth emerged from the dirt, reaching for the sun. He looked back up, to see a figure on a hill, the sun shining down on her back, giving her a solar halo. flowering vines were creeping over her wings, and wrapped around her legs; a yellow flower tucked daintily behind her ear. Dirtfoot stared for a moment, slack-jawed, before shaking himself mentally. "Hello....this isn't your den is it?"

______ The female shook her head. "No...i'm not from around here....there was a star...." She looked up at the glowing light overhead. Indeed, it seemed like a star had fallen from the heavens, hovering over Dirtfoot's lair. Dirtfoot blinked. "A new star, for the new year....how beautiful....ah, but where are my manners.....my name is Dirtfoot...i'm not staying here long....just for the night...you're welcome to stay with me...there's enough room for the both of us"

______ She nodded. "My name is Meadowbrook...i'm from the Gladeveins....you?" Dirtfoot nodded. "I've heard of that place! Me? I was born in Emberglow Hearth, but i left pretty young....I could never stay in one place for long..."

______ Meadowbrook smiles, warming up to him already. "What's a firey dragon like you doing all the way in the nature region?"

______ "I've always enjoyed it...I love watching the birds, the plants growing, the fish in the rivers..its tranquil here.....not if you go into the Shrieking Wilds though....that place is dangerous!"

______ The two talked long into the night, watching the star fade away, as the first day of the new year arrived. Dirtfoot rose, shaking the cold from his limbs.
"Meadowbrook?"
"Mmm? Yes, Dirtfoot?" She opened her eyes, yawning.
"i've been on my own for a long time now.....and this last night was the best one i've had since i was a hatchling.....do you...want to stay with me here? We can patrol the Glades together, and-"

______ He was cut off by Meadowbrook putting her paw over his mouth with a smile, the flowers blooming all around them.
"Oh Dirtfoot....I would love nothing more"
