I5p64Yz.gif It was a beautiful day. The hatchling had been sitting on one of many columns that dotted the area where his clan lay in the Mirrorlight Promenade. The sun warmed the hatchling's pale hide as he backed in the warmth of the Light Domain. He heard playful shouting. "Little brother! Where are you?" He heard his older brother's playful call from below. The hatchling's pupils dialated as he crouched at the edge of the pillar, hidden in an ambush. Eshu, Ogbunabli's older brother, walked under and the young hatchling pounced.

The two scuffled for a time, rolling about the protected enclosure of Clan Aphantasia's territory. Before one could claim victory, the hatchling's parents arrived and hid them in a pile of rubble. "Mom? Dad? What's going on?" squeaked one. Their father, whose outer layer of skin had been burned away to reveal bones, shook his head. In a pained voice, he said "Stay secret, stay hidden, stay safe" before leaving the two terrified hatchlings huddled together in the pile of rubble.

A few hours passed. Or was it days? It was dark, and a heavy smell unfamiliar to the two hatchlings hung in the air. Either way, they were hungry. "I'll go out and get some food," said Eshu in a worried tone. Several hours passed, and he did not return.

Eventually, a striped skydancer appeared out of the dark, oppressive mist. "It's okay little one, you're safe," she said as she picked up the hatchling ang put him in between her wings. "You're safe now." Thiscdid not change the fact that the hatchling was now orphaned, his brother missing and watching his home burned under the wrath of the gods.
