The Imperial sat in front of her masterpiece, covered in a layer of powdery flour from head to hind claw. Her front talons were busy kneading a gigantic ball of dough about the size of an adult Fae. The baker hummed a cheery tune while she worked, rolling the dough out on her work table and using her sharp claws to snip it into perfectly sized chunks. Each dollop of dough would eventually become one of her world-famous scones, properly enjoyed only with one of her world-famous jams, which lined the wall behind her in hundreds of jars.
This was Jammie’s typical morning routine. The baker would wake before dawn each morning, and by the time the sun had risen and most diurnal dragons had woken from slumber, she would have trays upon trays of hot fresh scones, ready for consumption. Some dragons claim that the smell of her bakes are what wake them from slumber each morning. Without them, their day would simply never start. By the time the sun has broken through the treetops to touch the roof of her humble home, a line of dragons nearly a mile long would already be waiting. She would serve each one with a smile, taking their offered coins with a word of thanks, and sending them happily on their way, bellies full of her delicious creations. At the end of each day, she was exhausted, but after a good night’s rest, there was nothing else she’d rather do than get back into her kitchen and start again. |
