Physconia lounged in his favorite puddle. It was in the center of the bog he had recently claimed as his own, and it was the only one large enough to house the entirety of his body. It really was the perfect swamp. It was peaceful, and no dragons were around for miles. It was perfectly untouched by civilization. Since moving in, Physconia had been cultivating everything; nature was more important than dragonkind, afterall. He had helped the trees to produce fruit, and planted more herbs that produced a lovely smell. The overwhelming amount of plants had also brought more animals to the swamp. It was perfect and amazing. It was everything Physconia loved.
He rolled over in the puddle and closed his eyes, enjoying the sunlight on his stomach. Water lapped over him, cooling his warm scales. The muck and thick plants growing on the surface nearly obscured him from view. He sincerely hoped that no one would try to disturb the bog while he was trying to take a sunbathed nap.
As if on cue, Physconia heard little footsteps around the bog. He sighed deeply and stood up from the water. Following the sound of intruder footsteps, he found a small skydancer preparing to take an herb from his perfectly cultivated swamp. He let out a growl deep in his throat, and the intruder whirled around. Physconia lunged at the dragon, going for her throat. She dodged easily and shoved his nose.
She had touched him. She had touched him? Physconia frowned. First she tried to steal his plants and then she dare to lay a talon on him.
“Why are you here?” He asked, making sure to enforce his question with a deep glare.
The intruder fluffed out her feathers. Physconia assumed she was trying to look bigger, but she was no more intimidating than an annoying gnat. She gave him a stupid response. “I’m gathering herbs, and it was quite rude of you to attack me unprompted.”
Unprompted? What a fool she was. “Wasn’t unprompted. You’re in my home.”
The intruder hummed. Such an annoying noise, like a mosquito buzzing around his head. “Funnily enough, I don’t care. I have stuff to do.”
The intruder tried to grab the herb again. Physconia lost his patience. He feigned a lunge towards the intruder and while she was distracted with his teeth, he grabbed her by the tail. He hoisted her up and stared at her unwaveringly. She flailed and tried to get out of his grasp. Such a small creature, she was almost like one of the animals he took care of. It was almost endearing. Almost. He would give her a chance. As she was much like the rodents he adored, there would be a degree of mercy, but not one with space for error.
He dropped her to the ground, never looking away. “Leave. Take no plants.”
She stared at him and made strange noises. He couldn’t tell what they were. Maybe some sort of animalistic noise? It was odd, but he refused to walk away until she left. Even with a degree of mercy, untrained animals couldn’t be trusted.
The intruder stopped making her weird noises, grabbed the plant, and ran. Physconia lunged at her again, but his talons bounced off of an invisible shield. She turned around and yelled,“I’ll be back every week to get more herbs!”
What a nuisance.
