Although primarily a mage, Tephra sees no need to not go armed. Plenty of prey is active at dawn and the clan always needs food.

Rituals require more specific items, and Tephra isn't one to be unprepared.

With the long patrols Tephra and Ipomoea have, they at times pass each other by. Instead they write letters - and keep every one.

Name: Cotinus

History: A gift to him from Kore, the veilspun gardener of the shadowed gardens, Cotinus prefers bright sunlight, in contrast to his dark colour.

PERSONALITY

Quiet and more than a little strange, Tephra's eyes light his way. As a pure conduit of Fire magic, most would not expect how clearly he feels the pull to his breed's ancestral element, but Tephra sees no reason in ignoring where his kind came from: that element is their strength, after all.

Friendly, calm and more than a little quirky, Tephra is known to be rather unsettling to most of the day dragons - hence why he keeps the Dawnwatch - but cares deeply for the clan he serves. After all, if he didn't, he wouldn't guard them half so well, would he?

ABOUT

A strange, steady dragon, Tephra and his wife Ipomoea are the Dawnwatch of the Dayguard, covering the period between the dark of night through the dawn and to the full clear light of day. With the ashclouds of the Ashfall Waste, this can sometimes stretch for hours more than in other Flights, making their job all the more important.

Tephra is an odd dragon; hatched as a guardian with primal eyes he decided to travel and learn more about magic - not unlike Kyria, who travelled to the Starfall Isles to further understand her chosen dedication. By the time he finally returned he'd undergone his change into being a veilspun, which he much prefers to the immense size he would have achieved as a guardian. In this way the flames of his eyes are smaller and easier to control, and also less likely to give him away in dim light - to strangers, his flaming eyes are merely bright embers, and not the warning sign of a watching guard.

Largely Tephra is a quiet individual who prefers to keep to himself. He's not unsociable, however, and has a few specific friends who's company he enjoys. Perhaps most strikingly of all is his close friendship with Muskeg, the clan's primary Gamekeeper, whom he helps hunt at times.

Tephra's return to the clan was far from expected, but he was welcomed back, especially with his new knowledge, skills and drive to assist; he's since become an integral part of the clan's defence, as well as helping the clan's cultivators.

Perhaps it is unsurprising, then, that he and Ipomoea have a close friendship with Kore, the naturally born veilspun woken from long torpor by the clan's growth. It was from Kore that both received their familiars: mobile plants carefully cultivated by Kore's skilled hands. Cotinus is rarely far from Tephra's side and often uses his tendrils to dig a hole or otherwise hide his flowerpot; as a team the two catch more interlopers than might be expected.

Tephra and his wife live away from the clan's main habitation areas, instead having a cavern attached to the cultivation valley, not far from Limnas' office. In this way they can leave quickly for their patrols and allow their familiars easy access to the outside and sunlight they so need - however it does mean that many of the clan find them strange, rarely seeing them working due to their unusual hours, and rarely able to find them when they're not working.

Nonetheless, Tephra and his odd ways are welcomed by the clan, and he's at times invited into the main tunnels by Pyrmal, who's hoping for great collaboration between himself, Tephra and Kyria, believing their primal eyes may be the key to some of his more complicated endeavours. Tephra is more than happy to go along with this, as Pyrmal's love of dabbling - and his two construct companions - mean that Tephra is paid very well for his aid.

Tephra does so struggle to find comfortable, cosy clothing for his size, the mobility of his wings, and the flammability of his eyes. Pyrmal, Aerea and and Gienah are more than able to provide.

RELATIONSHIPS

Ipomoea | Wife

Some in the clan call their partners their mates. Some call them their partners. Some settle on spouses. Tephra doesn't think any word best describes his and Ipomoea's relationship but the last: they've been together for years now and love one another dearly still.

Vesuvia | Dayguard Commander

Head of the Dayguard, while the Shadowguard give Tephra a report of what to look for, it is Vesuvia to whom Tephra gives his own, clarifying the events of the morning to best allow the Dayguard to do their job. He has an immense respect for Vesuvia.

Misa | Daughter

Misa Inktouched is the daughter of Tephra and Ipomoea who has turned further towards the Shadow their breed historically comes from. Due to her role in the clan's nocturnal patrols they do not get to see her often, but they love her dearly.

Muskeg | Hunting Companion

As Groundskeeper of the clan, Tephra frequently informs Muskeg of new herds passing through or good spots for snares. On occasion, they even hunt together, and after delivering what they catch to the clan, sit down for a strong cup of coffee.
