Biography

Quite horrifying, aren’t I?

Shadowspan could see the horror in the hatchlings' eyes, the way they didn’t dare make a noise, or move an inch for that matter. Was this the monster their mother had warned them about? The dragon that strikes fear in others' hearts with a single glance, known for being stuck in a loop of constant melting and healing.

You wouldn’t think that this horrifying dragon was actually anything but evil, but Shadowspan hatched like any other dragon. Even though as a hatchling he was often described as looking creepy, his family accepted him all the same. Shadowspan had always been quiet and reserved, keeping to himself and giving his love only to those who really mattered to him.

Instead he spent all his days outside foraging and hunting, in his early days he was quite a brutal little dragon that hunted most of the time. Until he was injured one day, much to his surprise a young guardian female whose name was Lilith found him and with the help of strange herbs numbed his pain so he could get home, this made Shadowspan see the world with new colors. Everything around him suddenly had meaning and made him oh so very curious.

However everything took a turn for the worse when Shadowspan’s father was struck by a deadly hereditary disease. One that has follow their family for numerous generations, over the course of three years Shadowspan watched with horror as his fathers once bright white scales turned black before slowly falling off like dust, thereafter his skin slowly began drying before flaking off causing large wounds. In the end he died leaving Shadowspan completely horrified of what would happen to him once he grew up.

For a time Shadowspan managed ignore what had happened during his childhood, he made a few new friends but remaind mostly on his own, once again Shadowspan was struck by a life changing event when he realized his own scales were darkening, he didn’t need anyone to tell him because he knew that he had the same disease as his father had. Frantically Shadowspan searched for a cure, all his life he had spent learning about the world around him, there must be some way to cure it. He thought, as time passed Shadowspan began giving up. Even after asking his friends for help there was no cure. But a fateful night, Shadowspan broke through. Large wounds had already started forming on his body signalizing the end was nigh, but he was so desperate and sure of his medicine that Shadowspan didn’t hesitate before greedily gulping down the cure he had created.

While at first it worked, his body began repairing itself. His old scales began growing, even looking more vibrant and were definitely stronger than they had in the past. It all changed when they began melting down. At first Shadowspan thought the disease wasn’t cured. In a way it wasn’t, the disease never really went away, instead his body kept repairing itself as the disease broke it down, he became a horrifying creature to anyone who didn’t know him. Nobody had to say it because Shadowspan knew everyone secretly feared him other than a few dragons who had been close friends before. And so he chose to move to the very outskirts of the clan occasionally getting visits by LavenderPallor or Orthus.

Even with his appearance Shadowspan is happy to be alive and hopes to someday find the true cure for his disease.
